Publishers Weekly
★ 09/30/2013
The Archangel Raphael and his consort, Guild Hunter and newly made angel Elena, take center stage in Nalini’s intense, vivid, and sexually charged sixth Guild Hunter novel (after Archangel’s Storm). The Cascade is in full force, heightening power—and possibly causing madness—among the Cadre of Archangels who rule the world. When hundreds of Raphael’s angels are injured during the Falling, an event that causes birds and angels alike to fall from the sky, and a virus begins to kill vampires, Raphael and Elena realize Manhattan will soon be undermanned and under siege. As Raphael’s powers change, he fears for his sanity. While remaining a Guild Hunter, Elena helps her husband forge alliances and keep the city calm, even as she worries that she is a liability to him, though a bigger concern is that Raphael may turn into a monster, should the “cold power” overtake him. The thrilling final battle will keep readers riveted as Singh pulls out all the stops. (Nov.)

HJ Top Pick! In Archangel's Legion (Guild Hunter #6) by Nalini

    HJ Top Pick!

In Archangel's Legion (Guild Hunter #6) by Nalini Singh, Archangel Raphael has been alive for eons and is the protector who rules over what is now known as New York. Having only recently found his soul mate, his consort Elena Deveraux, Raphael is slowly learning how powerful love can be. Theirs is a fierce love with an intense bond formed between them, which ultimately is feared by some and celebrated by others. Their bond could prove to be the link that helps him save his city from an unknown attacker when angels begin to fall from the sky. The Falling, as it comes to be known, lasted for less than ten minutes, but took precious lives and injured many. Raphael is unsure if the event is due to the first Cascade in centuries, a shift in power and Archangel's abilities,or if it is a direct threat aimed at him. He has noticed changes in himself already as he grows stronger and his powers begin to change with each strange event. Raphael feels a coldness and distance building within him but he can feel also feel the depth of power he could have if he allows it to take hold. Elena is the anchor that keeps him from giving in to the darkness and instead, holding on to the bit of humanity she brought into his life.

Guild Hunter Elena Deveraux is still getting accustomed to her growing power as a new immortal and in becoming Raphael's consort. She wouldn't have believed just a few years ago that she would be the mate of an Archangel but she cannot deny the power of the love between them. With her beloved Manhattan potentially under attack, Elena is torn between her instinct to fight against their enemy, and her fear of losing Raphael to the dark power trying to take him over. She strikes to find a balance between her hunter-born ways and her position of being consort to an Archangel. Their world gets turned upside down as they search for answers to the strange threats against angels and vampires. Elena digs deep to find the courage to move forward in the face of danger, knowing it may not be quite enough to overthrow the evil they are battling.

Together Raphael and Elena must figure out which Archangel is behind the attacks and which can be trusted as an ally. The immortals of New York and beyond are called upon to join forces and wage a battle that may end with much bloodshed. But will there be enough time and manpower to defeat those that are using their power to enslave mortals for their own personal gain?

Nalini Singh has written an epic, complex story full of love, complicated emotions and painful lessons. Lush with incredible details, there are moments of passion and of humor, as well as philosophical discussions and strategies of war. There are a lot of secondary characters to this story which would perhaps make it a bit hard to follow if you haven't entered the Guild Hunter world before, but it is possible to enjoy as a stand alone if you just keep reading and be a bit patient learning the intricacies. I fell in love all over again with Elena and Raphael. Elena is so fierce and strong...all badass and full of sarcasm but protective of those she loves. Raphael is absolutely powerful. He loves Elena as he has no other before and he watches over his people with a keen eye to keep them safe at all costs. I seriously can't recommend this book enough. If you love paranormal romance that whisks you away to another world, look no further than Archangel's Legion.

4..5 stars ~Reviewed by ANN & posted at Under the Covers Boo

    4..5 stars
~Reviewed by ANN & posted at Under the Covers Book Blog
Queen of Paranormal Romance, Nalini Singh returns to the Guild Hunter series with Elena and Raphael. The sole reason why I fell in love with this series in the first place was because of this couple. I loved Raphael as a hero because he was this god-like creature whose power is unparalleled in the world he has created. But in the first book, we saw him succumb to a more human emotion that makes him more endearing and real: love.

Raphael undergoes a few changes in this latest installment. When birds and angels begin to drop from the sky for the duration of five horrific minutes, New York is put into a state of panic as they try to find out what happened and deal with the number of deaths this has caused. Elena, with the help of her friends, Ransom, Sara and even Deacon try to find out what it is that has caused what they call The Falling.

The threat becomes more dire when Raphael bears an unidentified mark on his face that is slowly spreading. Could it be linked to the infection that is trolling the city? Furthermore, the all-powerful Raphael is hearing voices in his sleep, a symptom of madness that his father once had as well. Who are the voices he hears and does this mean that the Archangel of New York is swirling into madness?

Elena’s character has always been relatable in this series, but I feel that is amplified more in this book. We’ve learned of her tragic past and how Slater ruined her life and took those of her mother and sisters. But this time, we get more detail about the event and Elena’s reactions to that kind of loss. We also see her relationship with her father and how grief still remains as a heavy blanket over them even years later.

The politics once again come into play. With Lijuan and her army becoming a threat again and Raphael’s mother, Caliane stirring up more trouble when she declares that there will never be easiness between her and Lijuan, tension mounts until the threat of war soon becomes an issue.

What I love about this series is the lush descriptions that paint out the whole scenery in my mind. This world in my mind is so clear and vivid because of Singh’s attention to detail. While not my favorite of Elena and Raphael’s books, ARCHANGEL’S LEGION is a solid installment to the series. It addresses the darkest elements of Elena and Raphael’s most greatest fears and tackles them, making for incredible character development and just a wonderful story.

If you haven’t already read this series, then I highly suggest you do. It still remains as one of my favorites.

    Outstanding

Once again Ms. Singh has written a excellent story. I have read all her Psy/Changeling & Guild Hunter series & quality is outstanding. I would recommend that you read the other books in this series before this one or at least the 1st 3 which center on Elena & Raphael's story.

Wow, this book blew me away. You know when you finish the last word of the last sentence sit back and just, well, feel like you can finally breath again... Archangel's Legion was one of those nail biting, non-stop reads for me. PHEW! Even thinking back to writing my review, I'm getting all worked up all over again.

Lets start with the steamy side, Nalini Singh really heats up Elena's and Raphael's relationship. It's not like they interaction wasn't sexual before but man it felt like she took it to a hold new level of intimacy.

While they are fighting for their lives and preparing for war, they still seemed to manage some closure with open issues. If you are familiar with the Guild Hunter series, you know there are a lot of daddy and mommy issues going on...we definitely get some answers and even some closure.

Plot twist and turns, unexpected and shocking revelations and a drool worthy love story...I simply loved Archangel's Legion. Looking forward to the next installment in this series, it will be a on my pre-order list for sure.

    Archangel's Legion
This book answered a question I had about Ellie's dad, Jeffery. I really enjoyed reading Ellie's fighting for her sister, Eve, and her reaction to her dad when she finds out about her biological grandmother. Oh, boy! It was also nice to have Dmitri and Honor back to help with the fight. :) Will read again.

    Fantastic Paranormal Romance Read!

WOW! What a terrific ending! I was flabbergasted by the Legion, totally didn’t see that coming. I think I liked this book as much as the first one, ANGEL’S BLOOD. Usually, I enjoy the first book in a series the most. Since the characters are familiar to me in subsequent books, the unique feel lessons as I continue reading the series. But not so in ARCHANGEL'S LEGION. I love Raphael and Elena. Truly, Raphael is one hot archangel, and Elena? She's definitely his match. The secondary characters are well developed and I enjoy their interaction and the loyalty they have for one another. The dialogue is crisp, sharp, and funny. The emotions are real and the storyline had a suspense feel that kept me guessing until the end.

ARCHANGEL'S LEGION is a fantastic PNR and I recommend the entire Guild Hunter series.

    Focused. Strong. True.

Absolutely stunning. When I read it the first time right after it was released, I immediately re-read it twice. I have just read it again two more times. The Guild Hunter Series is my hands-down favorite book series. Archangel's Legion is just phenomenal. I can't wait for the next one later this year, but I don't know how this can be topped. Well, well done.
