Not even time itself can escape the Eternal Warrior! No one in the Valiant Universe is more terrifying, more dangerous, or more experienced in the art of war than the undying Eternal Warrior. After thousands of years on the battlefield, he's a master of strategy and weaponry, an unrelenting force of nature capable of dismantling entire armies with little effort and less conscience. His brother Armstrong, on the other hand, likes to read poetry and drink beer. Maybe that's why they had such a bad falling out? But now - after years apart - the Eternal Warrior has a new mission: destroy young Obadiah Archer, Armstrong's best-est new buddy and teammate in the war against The Sect. And, like it or not, Valiant's history-smashing adventure duo is about to feel the wrath of the Eternal Warrior's fist and steel.

This is the second trade paperback for Archer and Armstrong rele

This is the second trade paperback for Archer and Armstrong released by VEI following their successful re-imagining of the old Valiant titles. Full disclosure, I was a big Valiant fan back in the 1990's, and have been basically waiting for over a decade for these characters to come back to life.

In this series arc, Archer (the skilled assassin) and Armstrong (the drunken immortal) continue to travel together, eventually meeting Armstrong's brother, try to find a replacement Geomancer (who speaks for the Earth), and avoid being killed along the way. This book is one of my favorites of the new VEI titles - I like the comedy of the "odd couple" motif. One concern I have is that I still don't really get the same sense of mismatched camaraderie between the two characters that I got in the original series. Don't get me wrong, the pairing is great, the humor is there, but it just doesn't give the same sense of two oddballs who really like each other. Even with that drawback, however, the book works well. The story moves along, the new characters are interesting and add some depth to the plotlines, and the writing seems to really be developing. The artwork fits the book well - straightforward and too the point. Where as some of the other titles seem to drag a little bit, this one moves right along, and the reader has a chance to enjoy keeping up.

I suspect the comic book humor stories are incredibly difficult to write, but Archer and Armstrong from VEI is doing a great job. It is unfortunate that it must be compared to the original series, which in my opinion was one of the best written humor comics out there. The current arc of Archer and Armstrong is a solid, well written and drawn story line, which keeps the the humor and leaves me waiting eagerly for the next story arc.
