Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Melyssa Malinowski
Indie Kidd has a great group of friends. There is her stepbrother Dylan and her school friends Soph and Fee. Even her parents, step-mom, and nanny are great fun to have around. One day while hanging out at Indie's house, Fee receives a terrible phone call. Garfield, her grouchy, nasty, cranky cat, has been run over by a truck. Fee is immediately depressed and her friends, led by Indie, spring into action, coming up with a plan to cheer Fee up. When the first plan does not work they try another plan and another and another. Each plan, while wonderful in theory, ends up hurting fee, making her cry, or making her angry. Despite their best intentions, Dylan and Soph suggest that Indie just leave Fee alone. But Indie just cannot. She comes with plan number seven and tries to help fee morn the loss of her beloved Garfield. Will mourning help Fee move on? Will it help her recover or will Indie loose one of her best friends forever? This whole story is just darling. The illustrations are adorable and the text just seems to dance around the page. The story itself is a wonderful example of helping someone through the grieving process. All of the children in the book learn that it is okay to be sad and to take some time to reflect before you move on. It is also an excellent story about friendship and dealing with the loss of a pet. Are we having fun yet? (Hmm?) would make a great addition to any elementary school library. Just watch out for some questions about words out of the British dialect. Reviewer: Melyssa Malinowski
