Out of print for decades, in 2013 Sony/Legacy had the good sense to re-release the mono mix of Are You Experienced? vinyl only, thank you. This is beautiful 200g vinyl, remastered directly from the original master tapes in an all-analog chain by Bernie Grundman and the results are spectacular. This is a discrete mono mix, not just folded stereo. Hendrix aficionados will notice the differences. Lead guitar and vocals are not as up front and are better integrated into the mix. You can hear voices on "Third Stone from the Sun" that aren't really audible on the stereo version. The drums sound amazing: you can hear the sound of the room. Don't be fooled into thinking that mono recordings are somehow flatter or less 3-dimensional; the sense of space is quite amazing. This mono mix will be a revelation to certain Hendrix freaks.
