There are many reasons to read this book—the story informs, reveals and entertains. “Are you my Sister?” by Kathy Parsons Williams is a very well written personal journey that leaves lasting impressions about the value of self-identity and family connections. The story exposes the highly complex nature of family relationships and the long-term collateral effects pivotal events may cause. The book demonstrates that adoption reunions between siblings can be exciting happy events. Discovery of ones roots, ancestry and sense of self can be highly rewarding memorable experiences. Looking into the eyes of a stranger and seeing that which is intuitively familiar is an intense embryonic experience. Recognizing a biological connection in another person overwhelms the senses and stimulates our inner sense of self. The actions and facial expressions of siblings may initially be perceived as exotic, yet similar to ours, like two mimes pretending to face a mirror. Perhaps, sisters are like flowers from the same garden and the connection is electrical and magical, as well as biological. Are You my Sister contains all the elements of a spell-binding story—mystery, discovery, sense of self and a growing sense of maturity as events reveal themselves. From start to finish it captures your attention. It will tug at you heart and produce a tear or two as we carry along our own life experiences. The story demonstrates empathy for everyone involved in a positive way and demonstrates that with maturity and experience comes wisdom and forgiveness. Adoption reunions between siblings can be overwhelmingly positive serendipitous experiences. I am happy for you. Well done!
