Overview

Being a living experiment wasn't part of the scientific career she'd planned for herself.

Despite her sharp scientific mind and her degree in bio-molecular genetics, Dr. Ariel Jones hasn't figured out how her life changed so much in a single day. Before she can blink and ask about what is going on, she is injected with a billion nanos and some very potent wolf blood.

Now she can suddenly turn into a giant white wolf with the bloodlust of a starving animal. And she's an alpha...or so she is told by the even larger, very male, black wolf who was used to create her. Hallucination? She wishes. Whether human or wolf, Reed talks in her head and tells her how to handle things...or rather how to kill them...starting with the men who hold them all captive. Too bad he can't tell her how to put her life back like it was.

Admittedly, there are perks to being a werewolf, such as meeting sexy werewolf guys like Matthew Gray Wolf. Science labs aren't overrun with sexy men in white coats. She also doesn't mind learning about a side of herself she never knew existed. It's great changing into a real wolf whenever she wants, but being a living experiment wasn't part of the scientific career she'd planned for herself. Neither was falling for the local werewolf alpha, but what else is a newbie werewolf caught in her burning time going to do?

Meet the Author

After 35 years of doing everything for a living except writing books, I finally published my first romance novel in March of 2011. Thirty novels later, I am living my own "happily ever after" life as a full time romance author. I give back to the universe by hanging out to write at local coffee shops and keeping them in business. Addicted to making readers laugh, I include a good dose of humor in every book.

Dr Ariel Jones came to strapped to a gurney and two other women were similarly strapped to gurneys beside her. Last she remembered she had been at Feldspar Research. She had been drinking some coffee with a colleague Dr Crane. Then she woke up strapped down to the gurney. Dr Crane came in and told Ariel they had drugged her. First they injected one of the women her name was Heidi, then the second woman was injected. Then Dr Crane told her she was next and if any of them survived he had figured out how to make werewolves. Ariel was then injected with nanos and werewolf blood. . Ariel hears a voice in her mind , he says he is Reed a three hundred year old werewolf and she is wise to hide her wolf. . He also tells her she is an alpha werewolf but in training and the other two women will be her first responsibilities will be the two females as they will be in her pack. Excellent story and plot. I loved this story a totally different kind of werewolf story putting in science as helping cause and an alpha female. The characters were fantastic also. I totally loved them but especially Ariel and all she went through. I highly recommend. I received an ARC of this story for an honest review.

New scientific twist on how one might become a werewolf along with some action, humor, sex and romance made this a fun read. Three women forced into an experiment that changed them forever manage to defeat the bad guys, save a werewolf and escape to a pack that gives them a safe haven. Ariel finds herself an alpha with Brandi and Heidi as her mini-pack-mates. All three women change, grow and start to become more than they were while dealing with side effects that include the need for men to make things easier. The story engaged my interest and held it through the afternoon. I am curious what will happen next in book 2 though this book is able to stand alone and does not have a cliff hanger ending. Thank you to the author who gifted me an ARC through NetGalley. This is my honest review. 3.5 Stars

Ariel, Nano Wolves 1,  Donna McDonald   Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews Genre:  Sci-fi and Fantasy, Romance  I love fantasy romances especially those with shifters, and having read the amazon sample I was looking forward to this. A lead character that a scientist, and the nano technology side looked to provide some interesting reading. That sample though was the best of the book for me. For a scientist Ariel didn’t really act that way, and she and the girls were very accepting of the new life they’d been plunged into. I didn’t really like any of them that much, they seemed quite cold characters. There’s a lot of sex here too – and I love sex in a story, but at times here the sex IS the story and that's not good for me. I need a solid tale backing the sex side up.  I also felt really uncomfortable about Reed. Ancient, hundreds of years old werewolf, Native Indian, waist length dark hair, can mind speak to Ariel, and the biggie - because of his heritage can change to and from wolf keeping his clothes....familiar to any readers of Patricia Briggs novels. I know there’s crossovers and influences, conscious and unconscious in novels, but this was a step just too far for me.  I expected the nanos to provide something new, to give a different angle rather than just seem to be the answer to all issues. Its a bit like how I hate when characters get some magical new power, previously unheard of, right at the point they need it. The nanos seemed the answer to every problem the girls had ( For instance how Ariel as a very, very new wolf can so effortlessly beat much older, supposedly stronger ones).  I guess I just need characters to struggle a bit. Here it felt like everything came fairly easily to the group, and they were just so accepting of everything about this new world. I thought they – especially Ariel – would have questions and more curiosity but... If it wasn’t for the sex I’d think this was a teen and YA read, and that’s not a criticism of YA stories, I’ve read some great ones. The story and plots are written in the way many YA reads are, but then most YA reads don’t have endless sex in. The writing has that same kind of straightforward flow, simplistic style and language, with the plots being a bit obvious in what's going to happen. I just expected a bit more mystery, issues, questions, and dramas. Its got lovers of course ( of the book, not just in the book!) and it shows what I’ve often said, how we all enjoy different types of story. Its just not one for me despite that initial promise. Stars: two and a half, a great premise but the story didn’t live up to it for me. ARC supplied by Netgalley and publishers

LOVED it. Kept reading until the end. Dr. Ariel Jones goes to talk to her boss about a breakthrow that she made and she wakes up naked on a table with two other women. They are given two shots (nanos and werewolf blood). All three turn. Ariel gets everyone out; Brandi, Heidi and Reed. On the run they go to the Gray Wolf Pack until Reed can figure out what is up with his old pack the Black Wolf Pack. Ariel is fabulous. Feisty, funny, sassy and Hot. Her and Matt - the Alpha of the Gray Wolf Pack are Awesome. You have to read the story. Can't wait to read about Brandy & Gareth and Heidi & Ryan. Story about Reed would be great to. So glad that you wrote this story Donna. I was given an ARC for an honest review.

I've read other books by this author and enjoyed them. While I managed to get through this book, I was somewhat disappointed. At times, the story felt stilted and at others, was very cheesy. I also felt that I was missing some important information, or back story. If you want something light and somewhat cheesy, you may enjoy this.

I have read most of Donna McDonald's books and love them. This is a new shifter series for her. It starts little slow but ends good. I think once she gets more into writing in the genre then the books will get better.

I fell in love with Donna McDonald's Force To Serve Series and when I saw that she was releasing a new paranormal series, I was ecstatic! I was not disappointed. Dr Ariel Jones is a strong female character that fights for her life and what is right!! I adore Matthew as her equal male counterpart. I throughly enjoyed the way they had to learn how to be a follower when they are both instinctively designed to lead!! I can't wait for the next book!

So EXCITING to be Large and In-Charge… This first book in the Nano Wolves Series is a refreshing, humorous, action read about Shifters.  The heroine, Dr. Ariel Jones, is a human geneticist who through unsolicited injections is forced into becoming a Shifter.   Ariel doesn’t let this change in her life get her down, she embraces it with a take charge, don’t mess with me, she-Alpha attitude.    Along with this change comes the introduction to Matthew Gray Wolf, alpha pack leader of another pack.   It’s definitely a challenge, with some exciting times, for two alphas pursuing a relationship when both want to be in charge.     This is sure to be an amazing and enjoyable new refreshing Shifter series.
