Text is straightforward and informational, unmarred by italicized vocabulary (although there is a glossary), and current with today's newspapers. Included are sidebars, maps, an almanac of statistics, a timeline of important events, famous quotes, trivia facts, a recipe that applies to the state's agricultural strengths, and reader-pleasing notes about pro sports. There is mention of the many natural resources that give the state its nickname and the large corporations such as Tysons Chicken and Wal-Mart that started there, as well as Little Rock's role in desegregation during the civil rights era. Sidebars include information about the Crater of Diamonds State Park where visitors have found over 22,000 diamonds in the past thirty years, about Bill Clinton, and about Sam Walton.
