Overview

The critically acclaimed memoirs of one female police officer's sixteen-year odyssey, beginning with day one at the Police Academy and spanning assignments on Chicago's West Side, one of the most dangerous areas in the city.

The notorious cops' code of silence is broken as the author recounts incidents in the West Side projects: shoot-outs, ambushes, and what it feels like to kill a man—just four days out of the Academy.

The stories told are sometimes tragic, sometimes funny, often poignant, and always provide the reader with an on the scene feel for life behind the badge. Domestic violence, murdered spouses, abused children, and philandering CPD brass are just some of the topics addressed, topics that officer Gallo dealt with everyday.

From her work with gangs, narcotics, the gun task force, and acting as a prostitute, Gina Gallo offers a gritty account of the darker side of the city, giving readers an objective side to the cops, crooks, and victims that comprise a the police cops world.

From her first day in the academy to adventures in the projects, this former Chicago police officer knows what is happening in the streets and has the gifted ability to convey this to her readers. It reads like a non-stop novel, but every word is true. She is a born writer. If you ever wanted to know what it is like to be a city cop, please read her story. Buy now!

I came upon this book in the Forensics section of my library where I was collecting an armful of books to study for class. What a great read - on of the best books I have come across in a long time. Gallo has a way with words, a way that puts you with her in the sqaud car, in the projects, during a shootout, and through an unforseen car accident. If you have any interest at all in police work, please read this book!

As a female who wants to become a police officer, this book has helped me to understand what the streets are like for female cops. I have never read a book that had me laugh and cry and fill me with such emotions. Gina Gallo is a magnificant writer, and is an amazing role model for all of us who inspire to follow our dreams.
