    My Amazing Story After Reading

THIS IS MY AMAZING STORY. AFTER READING ONLY SEVERAL PARTS OF THE BOOK THAT WAS GIVEN TO ME, I THOUGHT THAT THE MAIN POINT OF IT WAS - (LET GO OF YOUR INHIBITIONS, AND JUST DO SOMETHING, ANYTHING CREATIVE, JUST JUMP IN TO IT). SO, WHILE I WAS ON A VACATION AT A SMALL CLIFFSIDE RESORT ON MY PATIO, I SAID TO MYSELF, OKAY I'LL TRY DOING JUST THAT. I JUST STARTED PICKING UP DIFFERENT SHAPED STONES IN THE 1 TO 5 POUND RANGE, AND BEGAN BALANCING A SMALLER STONE ON TOP OF A SECOND LARGER ONE TO FORM ABOUT SEVEN DIFFERENT SCULPTURAL SHAPES OF WHAT I THOUGHT WAS DIFFERENT BIRDS FACING WHERE THE SUN WAS GOING TO SET, SO IT LOOKED LIKE THEY WERE SUNNING THEMSELVES SITTING ON TOP OF TWO MUCH LARGER FLAT ROCKS ON MY PATIO AREA(TO BAD I CAN'T ADD A PICTURE HERE OF THEM), THEY LOOKED TERRIFIC WHEN THE SUN WENT DOWN, GIVING THEM NICE LONG SHADOWS. I REALLY ENJOYED THE WHOLE PROCESS, AND VIEWING THE FINAL SCENE FROM DIFFERENT ANGLES. NOW, THE AMAZING PART OF THE STORY. I HAPPEN TO RETURN 3 MONTHS LATER TO THE SAME RESORT ROOM, AND RAISED THE ROOM'S BLINDS NOT EXPECTING TO SEE ANY SCULPTURE STILL STANDING OUTSIDE THE WINDOW, AND TO MY ABSOLUTE SURPRISE WERE NEW GREAT LOOKING SAME SIZE STONE SCULPTURES EVERYWHERE, AS FAR AS I COULD SEE IN FRONT TO THE CLIFF, AND TO THE SIDES. I WENT TO ASK THE MANAGER OF THE RESORT - WHO DID THESE? HE SAID, ¿OH, SOMEONE STARTED IT ABOUT 3 MONTHS AGO, AND NOW A LOT OF GUESTS BUILD THEM NOW, IT'S ALWAYS CHANGING, THEY ARE GREAT AREN¿T THEY¿. FOR MYSELF, I HOPE IT KEEPS GOING ON AND ON, BECAUSE I KNOW NO MATTER WHAT, THEY ALL ENJOYED THE PROCESS OF BEING CREATIVE, AS MUCH I DID. GET THE BOOK FOR YOURSELF OR FOR SOMEONE AND, MAYBE YOU WILL ALSO LEARN HOW TO 'LET GO OF YOUR INHIBITIONS', AND JUST DO IT, AS I LEARNED HOW TO. IT¿S MORE FUN TO BE CREATIVE THAN I THOUGHT. DUANE

    Great Book

The projects in Dean Nimmer's book 'Art from Intuition' are clearly laid out, engaging and easy for students to follow and full of insight. His use of various materials, in fact just about every art material imaginable from collage to pencil, makes for beautiful works of art. Professor Nimmer aims to encourage his students' 'inner voices' to emerge through the process of making art - the same beneficial process students experience using the techniques in Betty Edwards' book, Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain. --Brian Bomeisler, artist and teacher of 'Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain Workshops'

A Great Resource and Well-Written Inspirational Guide

I have been painting for years using my own processes and learned skills yet have never found much inspiration in the methods of how-to books. Then I attended Dean's Art From Intuition workshop and was delightfully surprised at how much the work I created at the workshop resembled my own work yet with added abandon and freedom. It is a book I now keep handy and refer to often. While the exercises seem simple at first glance, by actually following them and throwing my own constraints aside, I have found that my work has improved greatly. I recommend this book for artists of all levels of training and experience.

Art from Intuition is the BEST!

I love how it seems like Dean Nimmer is speaking only to me and in a friendly and encouraging way.His enthusiasm is contagious; he makes you feel like you can try any of his exercises/ideas and succeed and have fun doing it! Although I've been painting for 25 years I was stuck making the same kind of pieces. This book got me out of a rut and re-energized me. I have a newfound confidence thanks to Dean Nimmer and his Art from Intuition!

Art from Intuition is a must read book for any artist.

I highly recommend this book to all artists. A professional artist should also find this book a good resource. This is the kind of book you can look at over again as you continue to make art. This book will get well used in your private library. It will spark new ideas.
I have come across a number of good artists in the Pioneer Valley of western Massachusetts. They do not want to leave their comfort zone. This is unfortunate. Who knows what they would create if they tried something out of their comfort zone.
Personally, I enjoy leaving my comfort zone. But this book still sparks ideas I expect to explore. If you can't buy this book go to your library to read it. If you are really serious about art then this book should be read.

Liberating, fun and informative. Two thumbs up!

Dean Nimmer is a gifted artist and teacher. He has the ability to encourage, inspire and educate, all done with great humor. I love the clear directions, inventive projects (who wouldn't love drawing with smoke?)and outstanding examples of art/play. This book rocks!

    A reviewer

Dean Nimmer's teaching completely changed my notion of what it means to be an artist. The spirit of play Dean fostered led me to use materials and methods I had loved as a child, and I believe working intuitively is the only way I can make work that comes from the real me! I'm sure this book will be one of the standards art instructors refer to for years to come. -Amy Baxter MacDonald artist, instructor and former student of Professor Dean Nimmer
