Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Art by Karen Salmansohn, illus. by Brian Stauffer, juxtaposes artist-inspired images with clever wordplay. Thus a surrealist image of a baby doll features the name "Dali," and a burnt-orange van approaches a green traffic light under a starry night sky in a painting labeled van Gogh. This debut title in the Petit Connoisseur series will amuse art aficionados big and small. (Oct.) Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information.
Children's Literature
The cover notes that this is a book for the petit connoisseur. The real problem is that you have to know something about art to make much sense out of the illustrations. Yes, there is a play on words—a Calder like mobile with the words moma, another image that says dada and a very strange doll image noted as dali and so it goes. The best play on words is a Van Gogh type scene with a van on the road in Van Gogh's starry night sky and a big modern traffic light that is shining green. This item may be packaged as a children's book, but it is really for pretty sophisticated adults. 2003, Tricycle Press, Ages Adult.
