This excellent anthology, remarkably even in quality, records outstanding guest presentations at the Boston University Translation Seminar of the past ten years. Though translators of Classical Greek and Latin, Irish, Chinese, Tamil, and Nahuatl (Aztec) tend to outnumber those of French, German, Italian, and Spanish, all contributors have a theoretical perspective on language, culture, and literature. By and large, Benjamin has become their higher authority for a sense of text; i.e., they are struck by its autonomy, and whatever the outcome in their own translating, are deferential toward the original. A fine work intended for translation studies scholars and for students of literature.-- Marilyn Gaddis Rose, SUNY at Binghamton
