The Art of Undressing

Overview

Ginger's mother, Coco, used to be an exotic dancer, though now she makes her living selling sex toys and teaching classes like "The Fine Art of Striptease." A straitlaced, self-respecting twenty-five-year-old, aspiring pastry chef Ginger has no desire to follow in her mother's high-heeled footsteps. 'So you all think I'm a whore!'

Absolutely amazing! Impossible to put down, never wanted it to end. Felt like the characters were real and I was the fly on the wall watching their lives take place. I would love to see this novel translated into a play and would defiantly read the sequel if there was one. I just finished it today and I feel like I am missing something from my life. Can¿t wait to start another novel by Stephanie and fall in love all over again. I learned a coupld new moves...always a plus!

    Absolutely Fabulous!

I adored this book and highly recommend it. I identified with Ginger in so many ways and love the way the story solution comes about. Ms.Lehmann is an incredibly talented writer who sucked me right into her story. And I'll do it all over again as soon as my next shipment from Barnes and Noble comes in :)

    Not her best work

This book just drags on...it doesnt have the spark that 'Are you in the mood' has. definately not her best work.

    Sugar, Spice and Everything Nice

Don't miss this! Stephanie Lehmann's latest book is full of laughs and substance. Each character is quirkier and more likable than the next. There's a lot to be gleaned about cooking and sexuality, but most enjoyable is the natural progression of the story and the change in Ginger as she learns to live and love from those that surround her.

Another Awesome Read from Stephanie Lehmann!

In Stephanie Lehmann's third novel, 'The Art of Undressing', we have Ginger Levine. She lives with her ex-exotic dancer mother (named Coco) in Manhattan, attends cooking school paid for by her wayward father, and has just broken up with her boyfriend Ian, who seemed more interested in her mother anyway. Ginger is the complete opposite of her beautiful, outspoken and feminine mother. She dresses much more plainly and is afraid to open up and be 'sexy' around men. Ginger's main problem seems to be that she is overcompensating for her mother's outrageous activities. She feels that she is too plain and un-sexy for a man to like her, but she doesn't know what to do about it. Not only that, but a guy she likes in her cooking class seems to be spoken for by a gorgeous girl, and the instructor Jean-Paul seems intent on making Ginger miserable enough to quit the class. Meanwhile there are issues to be dealt with at her father's house. Will Ginger give up on her cooking class, and men in general? Or will she realize the help she needed was right in front of her, all along, and that things aren't always what they seem to be? I enormously enjoyed this book. Lehmann has used her signature style of subtle humor, straight-forward storytelling and realistic characters to spin yet anther delightful and touching tale. She has a way of taking the most ordinary of characters and making them into someone that everyone can identify with on some level. Overall, I very highly recommend this book.
