Art Therapy and Ad/HD: Diagnostic and Therapeutic Approaches

Diane Safran's book is easily understood by grandparents who are overwhelmed with the myriad of information available re AD/HD. Our grandson was recently diagnosed and although medicine is helping him in school he, his parents and we still need strategies to learn and teach skills to Jason. This book clearly articulates not only how the diagnosis is made, but also offers creative solutions to learning. We have shared Mrs. Safran's book with Jason's therapist and teachers and have recommended it to other grandparents who are helping care for their AD/HD grandchild.

Art Therapy and Ad/HD: Diagnostic and Therapeutic Approaches

Mrs. Safran's book is a major contribution to both the field of art therapy and professionals working with clients with AD/HD. The book is well-written, organized and user friendly. I would suggest it be included in art therapy training programs as a must for students who will be working with this population. As an art therapist and professor of art therapy I will recommend this book to my peers and patients.

Valuable resource for mental health professionals

Ms. Safran's well-written, organized and informative book will be particularly helpful to me in clarifying to parents the benefits of art therapy for their adolescent child. I have seen the life-changing success of this approach used with students, and I now have an excellent reference tool to recommend to parents as well as to my colleagues.

    Brought my family together!

This book was incredibly informative and helpful -- and I can truly say that reading it helped bring my family closer together. One of my children has ADHD and we felt lost and confused regarding how to deal with it -- thanks in part to this book and our therapist, we are definitely a much happier, healthier family! I highly recommend this book.

Art Therapy and Ad/HD: Diagnostic and Therapeutic Approaches

As a child psychiatrist I am always being asked by parents for alternative or additional help beyond medication. I will be suggesting this book. It is easy to read, offers new strategies and sounds like it could also be fun while being informative.

This book is a wonderful resource for those of us challenged with ADD in the family. We have used the family meetings, together with art - huge success! It can be difficult to parent effectively, and maintain healthy relationships with ADD - Ms. Safran gives us tools and resources and lots of great examples, case studies, and ideas to work with. Thank you!

Pioneering clinical techniques for diagnosis and treatment of AD/HD

Excellent book, and sorely needed! Safran has codified her work with AD/HD patients to help clinicians and patients understand the value of art therapy in the process of diagnosis and treatment. Her step-by-step approach to diagnosis, treatment and associated therapies is most helpful in understanding the pivotal role art therapy techniques can play in helping patients with this diagnosis. An important addition to any clinician's therapeutic tools. Written with both clinician and lay-person in mind. This is a must-have!

Advances in the treatment of Ad/HD

Safran's book is engaging, lively, and very professional. She is the first to provide a practical, hands-on approach for introducing the vehicle of artistic expression to patients with attention span disorders. This is a welcome addition to the library of scholars, students of art therapy and clinical psychology, and parents of children with Ad/HD.
