Overview

During recent years various arts therapies (music, drama, dance, art) have become established in the UK, Europe and the USA in clinical practice and professional training. Each profession has established its own association. Based on more than ten years of research and practice of art therapy and dramatherapy, in training, clinical practice and theory, this book is the first to explore the relationship and differences between art therapy and dramatherapy. The first part of the book explores the theoretical background and the history and practice of the two therapies. The second part describes five major themes that have been developed conjointly, making use of dominant symbols and mythology. It outlines actual method and practice. The joint authors have collaborated in this research since 1980 in the UK, Norway and Greece. Both the authors trained as dancers as children before developing drama or art professionally and then establishing themselves as art and drama therapists. The authors have extensive clinical experience in psychiatry, learning disabilities, family therapy and eating disorders as well as teaching and writing.
