Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Jeanne K. Pettenati
"Believe in yourself" and "be yourself" are the lessons in this "Marc Brown Arthur" Chapter Book. Children need to learn this lesson early on and I wish this book did a better job of delivering the message. The story focuses on a popularity test that classmates find in a magazine for teenagers. Sue Ellen and Fern take the test and try to change their personalities as a result, thinking that they will become more popular. Their plan backfires. The text meanders and is convoluted at times. Several chapters do not move the plot forward as well as they should. Young readers may lose interest before getting to the end.
