Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Jeanne K. Pettenati
The first time that Arthur and Buster take the city bus to go to Arthur's swimming lesson they fall asleep and miss their stop. The two friends find themselves in an unfamiliar part of town. The phone at the closest diner is out of order and they are hungry. After Arthur and Buster buy snacks, they realize that they have no money for the bus ride home. This very disturbing scenario improves when Arthur suggests that they return to the bus stop and ask the bus driver what to do. The sympathetic driver reassures them that this "happens all the time" and makes an unscheduled stop so that they can call their worried parents. All ends well as Arthur's parents tell him that he was smart to figure out what to do in the crisis. This book can be used to discuss with children the situation of getting lost and how to handle it if it ever arises.
