Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly - Publisher's Weekly
Arthur is plainly worried about the new baby expected at his house. His friends offer plenty of advice: ``Better get some earplugs,'' says one. ``Forget about playing after school,'' says another. Arthur's plucky kid sister D. W. is delighted. ``Arthur,'' she crows, ``doesn't know beans about babies.'' While D. W. learns how to diaper and helps her mother pack for the hospital, Arthur keeps his distanceeven after baby Kate arrives. ``I'd rather look,'' says he. One day, D. W. invites her friends to watch her expertly feed Kate, but the baby begins to cry. No amount of bouncing or kissing will make her stopuntil Arthur steps in and burps her. Arthur looks quite vulnerable in Brown's illustrationsthe young aardvark isn't actually protesting the baby's presence, but he is realistically wary of her. Clever and appealing details (a photo album with baby pictures of D. W. and Arthur is a real treat) fill this charming addition to the series. Ages 4-8. (November)
School Library Journal
K-Gr 3 In this newest addition to the popular series about the amiable young aardvark, young listeners soon discover that Arthur's anxiety over his mother's pregnancy is matched only by his crafty sister D. W.'s enthusiasm. While Arthur frets over the many changes a baby will bring to his life, D. W. happily diapers every doll and stuffed toy in the house. When Baby Kate arrives home from the hospital, Doctor D. W. takes charge. But it is Arthur who comes to the rescue when, in his mother's momentary absence, neither his sister nor his friends (familiar to fans of the series) can stop Kate's tears. Arthur does (burping is the remedy). His fears about his new situation are calmed, and he emerges a small hero. Like its predecessors, Arthur's Baby deals reassuringly with a developmental issue. And like those earlier books, the humor lies in the colorful, sunny illustrations (pen, crayon, and wash), as well as the witty banter between siblings. Combined with a simple, direct style, this has sure-fire appeal for the primary grade set, as well as Arthur addicts of all ages. It should also be of special interest to families expecting a new arrival. Julie Corsaro, University of Chicago Laboratory Schools

    Arthur's New Sister

You should love this book because I think Arthur will get a new baby. You should read it because she will get a new baby sister. And D.W. said I love babies. Their baby is cute and also the baby's name is Kate. It was a funny story.

    It's Ga Ga Good!

The book is about Arthur gets a baby sister. Arthur feels worried about what the baby will be like. D.W. was crazy for wanting a baby. She put diapers on every doll and stuffed animal in the house she saw. I think it was a great book. The funniest part was when she talked about the baby being hers. She said, 'Don't get close because you all have germs. And be quiet. My baby is sleeping!'

A Book Review of Arthur's Baby

This is a review of the book 'Arthur's Baby' written by Marc Brown. The main characters are Arthur and his sister D.W. The main idea about this book was baby's different type, colors and sizes. I like this book because it was and exciting book to read. I recommend anyone to read this book because it was fun and I enjoy playing with babies.
