PW described Arthur the aadvark's 19th adventure as "another winning slice-of-life tale." Ages 4-8. (Apr.)
Children's Literature - Marla Frenzel
Arthur is at it again in the twenty-first book in the "Arthur Adventure" series. In this one, Arthur is bombarded by ads for the Treat Timer. He is finally determined to buy one for his dog, Pal, but he must first find a way to pay for it. He encounters trouble along the way, but finally earns enough to buy the Treat Timer. Pal does not quite appreciate the new gadget, however, and is actually afraid of it. Feeling frustrated, Arthur vows never to fall for ads on TV again. Children will identify with wanting whatever they see on TV, perhaps Aurthur's experience will make them stop and think more clearly. They will also be tickled by the ending, which involves a magic disappearing box and a sister.
School Library Journal
PreS-Gr 3-Arthur has chicken pox. When the ``polka dots'' threaten to keep him from the circus, neither Grandma Thora's treats, get-well cards from his class, nor all the cherry cough drops in the world can console him. Meanwhile, he's getting so much attention that indignant D.W. tries a pink marker and pale powder to divert some of it to herself. The familiar drawings, with all the wonderful details of family clutter, are reassuring. Arthur's family is so loving, and the ending so satisfying that there's not much else to say. A must-have.- Anna Biagioni Hart, Sherwood Regional Library, Alexandria, VA

This book is about Arthur's chicken pox. Grandma said don't itch the chicken pox. D.W. got mad because Arthur got to eat on the sofa and she had to eat on the table. D.W. said, "but... but... but..". "No, said mom." "Is Arthur going to be better?" said DW. "In about a week" said Mom. "Then he can't go to the fair." "Fine" Said Arthur.

I think that this book would be great for kids my age because it is the best! You should also read this book if you ever had the chicken pox! Arthur went by the same thing. If you read this book, I think you are going to like or even love it! My favorite part was when Thara, his grandma, came.
