Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
Marc Brown invites young readers to enjoy three of the most popular Arthur adventures packaged in an awesome single-volume family treasury. In Arthur's Birthday, the little aardvark's long-awaited celebration seems doomed when Muffy holds her party on the same day. Luckily, Arthur and Francine devise a plan to make everybody happy. In Arthur's Vacation, rain and a very boisterous D.W. threaten to turn the family vacation into a disaster, but Arthur makes good use of the time to take his family out for mini-adventures. In Arthur's Baby, Arthur's signature burping style saves newborn Kate...and the day! This great collection has new cover art and an admiring foreword from the legendary Mr. (Fred) Rogers.

Welcome to Arthur's world! Celebrated author Marc Brown gifts us once again, this time with a chapter/picture book of three previously published Arthur stories. In the first chapter, Arthur and Muffy work out having their birthday parties on the same day. It ends up with everyone over at Arthur's house having a great time. Next, Arthur's family goes on a vacation to the seaside, where it rains almost every day. He would have liked to be at camp with Buster. Still, somehow the family has fun just being together, and Arthur gets to bury D.W. in the sand up to her neck! The last chapter is all about the birth of Arthur's new baby sister. He's pretty anxious about it, but when Arthur saves the day by burping a screaming little Kate, he knows everything is going to be all right. As usual, the author's illustrations are warm, detailed and expressive. The sense of family life and good feelings, as well as the strong personalities of all Arthur's friends, make this a very enjoyable peek into a world most kids will relate to. Preschoolers will enjoy the pictures, while early readers will feel grown(up reading each story as a chapter. 2000, Little Brown, Ages 3 to 7, $18.95. Reviewer: Nancy Partridge—Children's Literature
