Children's Literature - Summer Whiting
Young readers will be delighted with oddities and freakish facts straight from the world of arts and entertainment. Did you know that a sculpture of the Last Supper was carved out of 1,800 pounds of butter? Or that a thirteen-foot statue of King Kong was created out of popcorn? It weighed more than four real life gorillas combined! There was once a woman who was ambidextrous and could write two different sentences at the same time. Children will enjoy the concise layout complete with fantastic photographs. The index will allow the reader to find just what he is looking for. Reluctant readers will be drawn into Ripley's bizarre world and will definitely be left wondering if he should believe what he is reading (or not). This particular book in the series may be disturbing to some younger readers, as there are pictures of deceased bodies and gruesome shots of exposed skin and muscles. It should first be previewed by an adult. Reviewer: Summer Whiting
