Paert's Fourth is one of these works that will be remembered, even in a hundred years time from now. It stands at par with luminaeries such as Mahler's Ninth (4th movement!), Schoenberg's Verklaerte Nacht or Shostakovitsh's Tenth - it's string driven, celli and bass propelled (2nd movement), and absolutely rhythm- and structureless - but yet so gripping and so intense and moving, that only the title - 'Los Angeles' - dedicated to Michail Khodorvsky and his hopefully vigilant 'Guardian Angels' (liner notes!) - can do it justice... and of course Esi-Pekki as the outgoing music director of his suberbly intense LA Phil in this gripping live performce at the new Walt Disney Hall...
Wonderful - and beautifully complemented the peaceful canon - maybe the best release of contemporary classical music ever.
