Overview

Ellen Goldman, a leader in the field of movement analysis, helped to found New York's respected Laban/Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies and is a practitioner and trainer of the internationally recognized Action Profiling System®.
In As Others See Us, Ellen Goldman demonstrates how to build awareness of one's own continuous body movement and experience the subtleties of body language. Goldman explains the concept of Integrated Movement — in which posture and gesture come together in one smooth and consistent action — and shows how this understanding can enrich all facets of everyday life. This unique and interdisciplinary work represents a major step forward for body language. Goldman relates body language specifically to the individual and the situation, and provides a wealth of examples and exercises that span a range of circumstances: family and love relationships, work situations, group dynamics, art, and spirituality.

Editorial Reviews

Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen
Ellen Goldman's many years of study, teaching and research of the subtle aspects of movement as communication make this an exciting, innovative and easy to follow book for anyone interested in understanding and developing more fruitful and harmonious means of communication.
From the Publisher
'Ellen Goldman has done a superb job in dealing lucidly and forthrightly with the most important topic of our time... communication. In discussing and exploring this vast subject, she directs her flashlight of knowledge into previously dark corners, thus leading us to at least the beginning of understanding how close observation of movement can help us realize our potential. This book should be a real contribution to the study of the human family.' - John A. Atchley, Psychiatric Services Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, New York, USA
