At the stated monthly meeting of the Century, held October 2, 1886, the President of the Association was, on motion of Mr. Louis Lang, requested to prepare an address on the long and industrious life of Asher B. Durand, one of the founders of the Century, then recently deceased. The address was accordingly prepared, and was read before the Cen tury at a meeting, held at the rooms of the Associa tion on the evening of Saturday, April 9, 1887, to which were especially invited the officers of the New York Historical Society and of the National Academy of Design.
