Millenia ago a craft containing bloodthirsty savage aliens landed on earth; the newcomers were able to mate with the native women who had a special Breed mark somewhere on their body. Their offspring, always male, became the first vampires. The deadly Ancients endangered humanity forcing their sons to kill them. The Order recently learned that one of the Ancients survived and his grandson Dragos is using him to make more Gen-X vampires that he can control.--------
Andreas Reichen is on a mission of revenge ever since the corrupt Enforcement Agency killed his brethren. He kill the Enforcement Agency involved until there is only one left behind their leader Wilhelm Roth, blood bonded to Andreas' former lover Claire Roth. Though Andreas knows she is the only woman he ever loved, his feelings for her will not prevent him from enacting vengeance even if that means he dies. Claire, who thought her Andreas was dead, refuses to help him commit suicide, but is determined to assist Andreas and the Order take down her Blood Bond. Unable to control his fire skills, Andreas saw his death through the eyes of a child. Claire knows the only way they can be together is if she follows him into hell.---------
The sixth Midnight Breed tale is a fantastic urban fantasy that moves the overarching story line forward while containing a strong internal plot. The protagonists are star-crossed lovers who each believe they have no chance for a happy ending. Filled with action and romance, fans of the series will relish this keeper, placing it along side the other five tales.------

Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged. The focus of this book is Andreas' pain, it is his motivation, his driving force and we are witness to it in this installment. He is essentially a tortured man, driven to acts against his nature in fits of revenge. Ms. Adrian does not hold back in conveying this intensity from the first page to the last. This is not an easy book to read, not the light and joyous romances of the previous stories in this series, and yet for all of its heart-wrenching extremes it may be the best so far.

I have really enjoyed this book. They are do a really good job at explaining the previous books that come in the series however I would say to read them in order. This book is really intense however it flows really well.

While many are critical of the romance in this story, it's what actually worked for me. Andreas and Claire had a past where he left and she mated with Wilhelm Roth, now the object of his wrath and vengeance. It was troubling initially to have Claire, essentially a married woman under vampire law, take up with Andreas so it gave me pause. Eventually, as details about her relationship with Roth were revealed, it lessened as an issue. I liked their interplay and ultimately her trust and commitment to Andreas. What didn't work so well with me was the actual storyline around the business of the Warriors, which was fairly predictable. While it was distressing to watch Andreas implode, his behavior was in character based on what happened in the earlier book. The fire show was a bit over the top and I really missed the conflict of the Breeds and Dragos. I'm sure it's coming up but this one just has the prelude. Still an interesting story, just not on the same level as others in the series.

It just didn't hit me like the others did. I fell in love with Lucan, then Dante, then Tegan, then Rio and then Nikoila but Andreas... I just didn't fall in love with him or feel a connection to the character. He was to fueled by vengeance, and rightfully, so but I just couldn't get into it... I'm sorry Lara Adrian I'm still going to read the next one don't get me wrong but this one was hard for me.

This one was interesting, lots of imagination needed to picture a man walking and on fire.
But it was a great read, as are all the books so far in this series. Just be sure to read them all in order, as each book takes something very important from the previous book. The story just keeps getting bigger and bigger!

I Also Recommend:
i think this book and book 7 were by far my favorite in this series! loved it!
Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.Ashes of Midnight is the sixth book in Lara Adrian's Midnight Breed paranormal romance series. This book in the series continues as The Order gets confirmation of their worst nightmare, an Ancient (one of the original aliens) thought long-dead but actually hidden by this society for the purpose of breeding a new race of unstoppable killer vampires.
Andreas, has crossed the path of this secret society and lost his whole family as a result. Bent upon revenge he has nothing left to live for - except the death of his enemies. Claire is the lover from his past, now the Breedmate of his mortal enemy, who has the task of pulling Andreas back from the brink of self-destruction.
I found the story of the struggle to determine and announce their love for one another an "I can't put the book down" piece. It was amazing how much the two cared for each other yet were hell bent on not moving from their original position on who does what and who goes where.
I would definitely recommend this book to any who enjoy a good love story with some elements of surprise and some mystery and action involved.

Just live every book in this series it was a great read! Dramatic, romantic, sexy - what more could a reader want!

Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.Andreas lost his entire family in a slaughter commanded by a corrupt, high ranking breed enforcement officer. His sole goal is revenge for the meaningless deaths of his entire family. Systematically eliminating all involved in the murder of his family, Andreas saved the worst for last, W. Roth. When he attacks Roth's country home with his very special pyrotechnic gift, he is reunited with the only women he ever loved enough to be mated to, Claire. Claire just happens to be Roth's wife. Feeling reunite between Andreas and Claire, deceptions are under covered and this is all while an even bigger evil is afoot.
After reading some excellent books in this series, I found this story slow going and hard to really get into it. Yeah, sometimes my mood effects my enjoyment of a specific book, but I had a really hard time caring about the outcome. All in all it was ok but probably my least favorite of the series so far. I am glad I finished it because things took place that were monumental to the continuation of the series story line.
Out of the whole series so far, this book is seriously lacking. They books before this have been exciting and the reader was able to get sucked in, but this book that focused on Andre was too...blah. As a reader you don't get as connected to the characters or the story, so while i wont say that the book is great it is still a good addition to the series.
THE BOOK:
In the previous books we were introduced to Andreas Reichen, the darkhaven leader who in the last book lost his family and home. Now you get the back story of what happened to make him who he was. And the struggle that he has come to face since he found his home destroyed.
Then there's Claire, a woman who is mated to Reichens enemy and the woman he loves.
Throughout the story you get to see who Reichen was and find out if the love that Clarie has for him is enough to save him from the fire.
Recommended for those who read the series, not so much for those who just want to read the book
After finishing the last book in J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series it was recommended to me by a B&N employee that I try the Midnight Breed Series by Lara Adrian and I am glad I did. I have loved each book in the series thus far and find them hard to put down. I recommend this to book to anyone who enjoys a great paranormal romance story.

Each book has a different couple in it....and this one with Claire was priceless! They used to be a couple but he left her...now he's back from the dead (or so she thought) do kill her husband. They couple starts to remember those old feelings for each other and it goes from there....do they end up together?? Read and find out!

The characters just become so alive as the story unfolds. Anyone who reads this series will not be able to put the book done. You can picture the places they talk about. Author Lara Adrian has done it again. I can't wait for Shades of Midnight to come out. I recommend this to book to anyone who like vampire stories.
Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.I could not wait to read this book. I have liked Andreas from book 3. I could not wait to read his story. I love the love story between Claire and Andreas. They are one time lovers who are torn apart by a nasty enforcement agent. Andreas has a "special gift" that we have not seen before in other characters. This makes the book even more exciting. Claire and Andreas seek a way to be together. The ending is very dramatic and I read the whole thing in less than 24 hours. I could not put the book down. I is one of my favorite out of the series! Now we have to wait for the next book! :( I can't wait to read on!
