This book has drastically changed the way I think about food. Now it makes sense why we are getting fatter and less healthy. this book will teach you how to reverse that trend. It's really easy to understand and fun to read.
I found the Asian Diet a refreshingly easy to read guide to not only a better diet, but a healthier lifestyle in every aspect. Tthe "Attitudes" section was incredibly helpful and thought-provoking, as well as the rest of the book was. The book is very easy to follow- laid out in a very easy to read format, with key points of a section set in bold and new topics separated by headers, instead of an entire new chapter. Overall the book was not only informative and helpful, but a delightfully easy read. Pick this book up for yourself, or family and friends who are interested in becoming healthier, or even just the Asian perspective on how we live our lives.
This book is great for anyone who wants to take charge of their lives again. The author explains the principles of healthy eating as understood and refined by the cultures of Asia. He presents simple ideas: white rice is better than brown, cooked veggies are better than salad, supplements aren't benign and shouldn't even be necessary, calories don't matter, juicing is not good, and more. The way he explains things seem so commonsensical, but I never thought about food this way before. I feel empowered now in making my food choices. There are chapters on Grains, Vegetables, Fruit, Meat, Dairy, Sugar substitutes, breakfast, feeding children, cooking methods. Each chapter is short and gets right to the points. There are also chapters on Lifestyle and Attitudes; and he explains why these factor in to the diet (or how all three factor in to overall health). Then there is a brief explanation about Oriental Medical theory; and an index of the actions and properties of the foods we eat every day (or should). I was fortunate enough to read an advance copy, but it should be in bookstores and barnesandnoble.com this week. I recommend this book.
everyone should read this book. Its fun to read and very educational. It all makes sense, we should learn from the cultures that have figured out how to be thin and have less diet-related diseases. I bought a copy, and now have sent five more to friends and family because everyone needs to know what their diet choices are doing to them; and how amending those choices can prevent disease. If the boomers had this info, we would not be saddled with such a sick population and such high health care costs. I think this book should be required reading in schools.
My daughter and I have been thinking about dietary changes to become healthier. She found this book and wanted to try it.
