Overview

No one's more dedicated to the new realms of world electronica right now than San Francisco's Six Degrees label. Hot on the heels of some excellent Brazilian albums comes this look at Asian Underground-style fusion. All the DJ stars are here: Fun Da Mental, Talvin Singh, Joi, and State of Bengal…but there are some interesting curveballs in non-Indian electronicats like Banco de Gaia and Fila Brazilia, who turn in suitably spiced subcontinental sounds. Thunderous beats meet Eastern harmonies and exotic instrumentation.

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Heather Phares
Six Degrees' Asian Travels collection spotlights traditional and electronic artists from India and Pakistan, including Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Najma, Joi, and State of Bengal. DJ Cheb I Sabbah's "Kese Kese," Fun Da Mental's "Ja Sha Taan (Transglobal Underground Karachi Deathcult Mix)," and Joi's remix of Michael Brook and Khan's "Sweet Pain" are some of the highlights from this compilation, which also includes tracks from Fila Brazilia and Banco De Gaia. This is an inspired fusion of South Asian traditions and the electronic and ambient styles they influenced.
