Children's Literature - Jody Little
Filled with excellent photographs, simple charts and graphs and clear, focused text, this book explains and answers questions about climate and climate change. The author begins by briefly explaining weather patterns, followed by the greenhouse effect and how increased levels of carbon dioxide are contributing to the greenhouse effect. Readers will learn how the Earth's higher temperatures are creating problems such as Arctic ice melt, sinking soil and rising ocean levels. The author ends the book with a discussion of extreme weather and what readers can do to slow climate change such as saving power and buying recycled goods. As part of the "Ask an Expert" series, this is a good book choice for primary grade science instruction. The design of each page is well-balanced with text, photos and captions, and readers will not be overwhelmed with information. Book also includes a glossary, index and listings of interesting web sites for seeking additional information. Reviewer: Jody Little
