The Revised Version is Even BETTER

As the mother of three children with autism spectrum disorder/Asperger Syndrome I've got plenty of experience under my belt NOW, before my first son was diagnosed I was floundering. Meltdowns were my biggest angst. Even after the diagnosis which gave us some clue as to what was happening, I still didn't how to help prevent, or manage these seemingly unexpected rages. I simply did not know what to do and no conventional parenting concepts helped. When I found the Difficult Moments book our lives as a family completely changed. I learned what the causes, signs and interventions were to effectively help our son, and later our other two children. Not only was this extremely helpful, but I also breathed a big sigh of relief because for the first time I realized that IT WASN'T MY FAULT. The Revised version is even better. It contains the visual image of The Rage Cycle, which shows the three stages: Rumbling, Rage and Recovery. It gives clear concise charts on what each stage looks like, what do to, what NOT to do and how to manage both the child and yourself in those heated situations. It is so clear that while reading the entire book is best, reading these visual aides alone is enough to get the basic concepts and put them to immediate use. For this reason it is an excellent book for professionals or anyone working with children with autism spectrum disorders. But there is so much more! The revised edition also includes new references and a new chapter at the end written by the mother of two children on the spectrum. It offers practical ideas for parents that are realistic. None of this: let's try to implement school strategies into the home stuff. It is real because this mother is living it. The overall sense of this book is that you CAN deal with meltdowns, many (but not all) are preventable and when all else fails you can still help your child through it. The tone is respectful of all involved. I have purchased 5 of these books total and they are distributed throughout our local schools and therapy centers, but I am clinging to my last copy (I suspect it will leave my hands somehow and I'll need to buy another.) I highly recommend this book to both parents and professionals.

    I Also Recommend:

    GREAT INFORMATION

I think this book was great. It had great information and it was laid out very easily and helped me to understand why these approaches work. I even recommended it to one of my friends to help him with his son.
