Meet the Author

Tricia Nolfi has spent the past twenty years working in higher education in the areas of student centers and student activities, judicial affairs, student governance, leadership education, and human resources. In addition to administrative work, she has served as a course instructor in the area of leadership development. She currently serves as the Associate Director of Human Resources at Rutgers University providing direction for employee professional development programs, divisional marketing and outreach, employee recognition efforts, and new employee programs. Tricia has authored articles on student leadership development is editor of Advising Student Governments: Models for Practice and Strategies for Success (NACA Educational Foundation, 2000).

Brent D. Ruben is Professor II (distinguished professor) of communication, Executive Director of the Center for Organizational Development and Leadership, and an associate member of the faculty of the Graduate School of Education at Rutgers University. Brent conducts research, teaches, publishes, and provides professional consultation nationally and internationally in the areas of communication and higher education leadership, assessment, planning and change. He has authored 40 books and 200 book chapters and articles. His recent books include: A Guide to Excellence in Higher Education (2009), Understanding, Planning and Leading Organizational Change (2009), What Leaders Need to Know and Do (2006); Assessing the Impact of the Spellings Commission: (with L. Lewis, L. Sandmeyer and others, 2008), Communication and Human Behavior. Fifth Edition (with L. Stewart, 2006); and Pursuing Excellence in Higher Education (2004). He was the first president of the National Consortium for Continuous Improvement in Higher Education (NCCI), a member of the 2007 US Department of Education Accreditation Regulation Rulemaking Team, an examiner for the Department of Commerce/NIST Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Awards, and a member of the NIST Education and Healthcare Baldrige Pilot Advisory and Evaluation Team. He is the 2006 recipient of the Brent D. Ruben Award for distinguished contribution to higher education, created in his honor by the National Consortium for Continuous Improvement in Higher Education (NCCI); and the 2004 recipient of the National Communication Association Gerald Phillips Award for Distinguished Applied Scholarship. He has also received the National Association of College and University Business Officers Professional Development and Scholarship Award (2003), and the Rutgers University Daniel Gorenstein Memorial Award for outstanding scholarship and service (2000).
