The authors begin by providing a historical overview of the development of library and information services through the needs of society. The next few chapters provide a model for analyzing and understanding communities by defining the various parts such as individuals, groups, and agencies. The last set of chapters discuss how to plan and implement a community analysis and develop services in response to the results of that analysis. The appendixes offer details of the case study conducted by the authors. The title was written with all types of libraries in mind but will be more useful for library administrators, or library school/information studies students, than for use by front line staff.
