Editorial Reviews

Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Samuel J. Chmell, MD (University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine)
Description: Part of The Masters Experience in Arthroscopy Techniques sequence, this 2-CD program takes orthopedic surgeons on the whole trip through ACL reconstruction.
Purpose: The objectives of this presentation include stating the indications and contraindications for ACL reconstruction, demonstrating graft preparation, showing surgical techniques, detailing tunnel placement, and avoiding pitfalls and handling complications. These are certainly worthy objectives. The material is presented in an organized, sensible, and sequential fashion. The video format is particularly desirable for the actual performance of the surgery.
Audience: This program is appropriately intended for orthopedic surgeons and orthopedic surgical residents. The needs of the intended audience are more than adequately met. The authors are well-respected authorities in this field.
Features: The highlight is the visual presentation of virtually every accepted option for orthopedic surgeons performing an ACL reconstruction and even revision surgery for failed ACL reconstruction. The discs are easy to view and the video and sound are impeccable. The explanations and demonstrations are thorough and easy to follow. There really aren't any shortcomings. A web site can be accessed for even further information.
Assessment: This program, in one concise 2-CD set, provides what I think is the best single reference source for ACL reconstruction. It should be every orthopedic surgeon's first step in learning and studying ACL reconstruction.
