Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
The first album of Asterix comics appeared in 1961 and soon became a raging bestseller in France, topping even Tintin. Originally created by the team of R. Goscinny and Uderzo, it has been continued for the past several decades since Goscinny's death by his partner. Asterix is imbued with very French sensibilities and has taken its time catching on in the United States, but the recent reissue of several numbers should remedy this situation. Asterix, of course, is a Gaul. A very short Gaul. His buddy Obelix is a huge Gaul (transporting menhirs by sheer back-strength is his occupation, after all.) Together they continually harass the entire Roman Empire in the year 50 B.C. Their garbled Latin is only one of the amusements involved. In this particular number, Obelix turns first to stone, then reverts to childhood when he imbibes an overdose of magic potion. A galley full of escaping slaves (led by Spartakis, a ringer for Kirk Douglas¾to whom the issue is dedicated,) pitches in to recover the old Obelix. In the process, Atlantis is rediscovered, and Caesar loses a few more galleys. Despite the occasional use of racial stereotypes, Latin classes¾and lovers of the absurd-should eat it up. 2002 (orig. 1996), Sterling,

This is an absolute must have series for all ages!!!

When I was a child I've enjoed reading all Asterix books. My set of books has gone to my nephews, so I'm here to buy a complete set (yes, over 30 books!) for my child.
Stories are great, illustrations are awesome and funny.
I highly recommend it to everyone, not only for kids.

    A good addition

One of the better addition to the collection. Nice artwork on Kirk. Funny translations. Asterix and friends head out to sea towards Atlantis. Multiple mini adventures in one. A good find to complete your collection.
