Children's LiteratureThis title from the "Rookie Read-About Health" series definitely fills a need for children who are afflicted with asthma and need to know more about the symptoms and how others cope with their attacks. Illustrated with attractive color photographs, and in a nice small format, this book features an index and a photographic glossary. Information about the relationship between allergies and asthma is offered. It also explains that a bad cold or overexertion might trigger an attack. Children are shown using inhalers, and there are drawings of the lungs to further the reader's knowledge. The children shown in the photographs are from many cultures, and there are older people shown, as well. The text is well suited to a book for first independent reading. It has a reinforced binding. The series also includes bruises, earaches, sunburn, pinkeye, and a number of other titles. This may be a useful title. 2003, Children's Press/Scholastic, Ages 6 to 10.
