Gr 7–10—Two brothers from different paths in life unite to track down the man who murdered their parents. Royal has to pretend to be a participant at the training facility where trainees pledge to die for the throne while he is attempting to infiltrate the network to locate the killer. The story gets confusing as the other brother, Charles, talks about aliens destroying the city by turning explosions into gas, then liquid, and back to solid. Evil seems to lurk around every corner not only in Astro City, but also around the country. There is nonstop action throughout and fight scenes appear on nearly every page as the Williams boys surge on to avenge their parents' deaths. Readers who are familiar with the "Astro City" comic will have no trouble keeping up, but novices to the story line might get lost in the various characters and in determining who represents good and evil.—Jessica Lorentz Smith, Bend Senior High School, OR
