Meet the Author

Mark Allan Gunnells is thirty-six years old and holds a degree in English and Psychology. He is the author of the chapbook A Laymon Kind of Night and the upcoming Whisonant and Tales from the Midnight Shift, Vol. I, all from Sideshow Press. His short story "Dancing in the Dark" was recently released through Darkside Digital. A small-town boy at heart, he still lives in his hometown of Gaffney, SC, with his partner of nine years.

    Changed My Mind on Zombie Fiction

    I'll admit it. I had gotten so sick of all the copycat zombie flicks that have become available over the past decade or three that, despite my love of horror, I had opted not to read novels that featured zombies. After all, there's only so much you can do with a walking dead person, despite the various stages of decomposition. I know, zombie lore isn't about the monster, but about the people who are trying to survive the onslaught from the brain sucking ghouls.

    Now the question, what would you do if you were facing a zombie onslaught? Author Mark Allan Gunnells takes us inside a bar named Asylum and into the minds of the handful of people that are trapped behind the doors of the nightclub, while the walking dead try to get to them.

    I'll admit that I enjoyed this book. It was well written and the way that the characters developed, drew me in and kept me interested. This reader is looking forward to reading more of Mr. Gunnells work.

    Great read!

    When I read JadedGB's review, I burst out laughing. I know Mark, and he is as far from that reviewer's description of him as possible. It's called "fiction" for a reason: the characters are made up and don't necessarily reflect the writer in any way. And characters with issues and conflicts make for the most interesting storytelling.
    As for the story, "Asylum" is a great, fun read. I'm not that big a fan of the zombie genre, but I enjoyed this book immensely. Sharply drawn characters, crackling dialogue, great action (of all kinds), and one of the best opening lines ever! I highly recommend this story from one of my favorite storytellers!

    Highly Recommended!! A Horrifying treat...

    Let Mark Allan Gunnells carry you into the dark world of zombies. Take Night of the Living dead and twist it. When Curtis and Jimmy go out to the club for the night they got more than what they bargained for, as zombies begin to attack and trap them inside the club called Asylum. there is an eerie atmosphere in mark Allan Gunnells writing as you follow the fear and panic of the characters as they deal with the fact that the dead has risen. A very good read and worth it. It gave me chills...I recommend getting this to add to your collection, it's worth it.

    Sets gay characters and plots to Before Stone "Age" rather than "Wall"

    This reads like it was written by a self-loathing gay homophobe who was dared to use as many outdated stereotype characters in the smallest space possible. As you're looking at this on line,I recommend that you scroll away from this as if drag zombies from space were chasing you!!!

    Didn't Hate It But...

    The book claims to be over a hundred pages but the numbering is definitely off. The plot was ok the introduction of the characters was good but I would have loved more details. Decent read for $.99...
