Overview

The pursuit of the truth. The hunt for a life.

For the first time in months, FBI Special Agent Alex Troutt feels almost normal, hanging out at a local bar with friends after work. Not long into the evening she stumbles over one of the most disturbing images she has ever seen.

And that's only the beginning.

A body is found in Lowell, the human damage, once again, inconceivable. Hours later, another strike. Pushing heartache aside, Alex immerses herself in the investigation. But with every new clue comes a new twist.

With the killing spree drawing the attention of every intelligence and law enforcement agency in a five-state radius, Alex is forced to partner with an egomaniac from the CIA. Yet, even with limitless resources, every step forward proves to be a step too late, the kill list seemingly endless.

Once the killer makes it personal, Alex is left with no other option-she must confront the person who destroyed her life to try to cease the vicious murders. And when she finally learns the killer's end game, every second counts if she has any hope of stopping the brutal killings.

The hunt will end. Will Alex?

Once again John W. Mefford has written a thriller with a lot of twist and turns that wants you to keep on reading to the end. In this one, FBI Special Agent Alex Trout is back after an accident and losing her husband by murder. Turns out the killer she is after also killed her husband. She ends up teaming up with with the CIA on a manhunt with a killer that is ruthless and is personal leaving notes for Alex. If you like thrillers and mysteries John W. Mefford’s books are for you and this one is a great one.

I read the first book in the series so was more than happy to continue with this one. It can be read as a stand alone but to get full benefit I would recommend reading At Bay prior to it. Alex is back and in pursuit of another killer, just as things were returning to some kind of normality. She lost so much first time round surely it can’t be happening again. As she becomes more engrossed in the investigation it begins to get a bit too close and personal. I really like Alex, she went through hell previously and her memory still hasn’t fully recovered so it seems very unfair that she is the target again. This is tense, dark, graphic drama … John Mefford hits close to the bone and if you don’t like psychological mind games then this isn’t for you. The whole story captures my imagination, the NYC links make me feel included but I’ve yet to fathom out how these plot lines come together. I would be a hopeless FBI agent. It’s twisted, gruesome but addictive reading. Another winner!

If you can get past the childish, mean-spirited behavior of a group of people on a desperate race to find a serial murderer on a rampage and the main character who "pinches the corners of her eyes" in about every chapter, it is a pretty good story. The main character comes across as rude and vulgar

I received a copy of this book to review all thoughts and opinions are my own. I have found a new favorite series, these books are amazing and this one is no different. I was even more excited to read this one and now that I'm done with it, I can't wait to read the next one! This is a book you just can't put down. You keep wondering how you are going to figure out what is going on, don't waste your time you will never figure it all out. Just hang on and enjoy the ride, you will not regret picking up this book.

Alex Troutt is beginning to get her groove back, in her personal and professional life, and tries to spend as much time with her family, catching up on her time lost. The one time she doesn't go straight home after work, is the beginning of a new case that is unlike one she has seen before. The gruesomeness of the murders that begin to pile up make it impossible to believe that these cases are not related to one that personally involved Alex Troutt prior. Having to deal with the emotional ties and flashbacks, Troutt must push through to end this case before more blood ensues. Collaborating with other agencies, they are still barely able to keep up with all the kills, and the game suddenly changes when the killer gets personal with Troutt. The team needs to see an end to this vicious game. Mefford continues to weave stories full of suspense, surprises, and nail biting drama and I can't wait to continue following Alex Troutt's journey.

Will the brutal killings ever end? Alex Troutt thinks things are finally settling back into place in her life. Things are looking up, however slow it may be happening she feels she can handle things once again. With her memory returning still after waking up from amnesia months ago there are times things just don’t seem to make sense, but nothing compared to the sudden killing spree that’s hitting the streets. Within the first few hours of a body being found another is uncovered, drawing in plenty of unwanted and unneeded attention while Alex is emerging herself into the new case. Even with a few setbacks, she knows how to get a job done and solve a case but with each new solid lead that takes her deeper into finding the person responsible for the killings there’s a twist that throws the entire case in the other direction. With more killings piling up the FBI is closing in on taking over the entire case that’s spreading across country, upping the intensity. With pieces of the puzzle still missing Alex must find the connections with what seem to be weak leads. Convinced she’s on the right track Alex keeps her cool under pressure and steps up to the plate once again, proving she won’t stop until the job is done. She knows not everything is as it seems on the surface and digs deeper into the brutal world of the killer, determined not to stop until she uncovers the person behind the gruesome crime spree. Will her determination and quick thinking be enough to stop a killer this time? Even with a major break in the case the killings continue, it’s up to her put an end to it before there’s another victim. AT Large is a quick paced, suspenseful thriller leaving you questioning what will happen next right up to the last few pages. John Mefford did a wonderful job once again at bringing a story to life. AT Bay, was the first book in this series , and while I would recommend picking that up, AT Large is a stand alone. You don't lose anything in the story, it gives you a little background on what had happened to Alex in the first, but nothing that takes away from the story plot. Characters are well written and there's a constant flow in he story itself, loved that action and the suspense that keeps you guessing right to the end of the book. If you enjoy crime books, and suspense that leaves you guessing AT Large is the book for you!

Several horrible murders have occurred, but how can that be? The culprit is behind bars. After admitting he had some help, Alex and her group must follow many twists and turns to find out who is next to be the ‘victim’.The helper…. well lets just leave that one a surprise for you. Mefford is a specialist in raising your suspense level. The main characters are likable. I really like that the Main one is a woman who still has a few demons in her own life, but is easily counted on to get the job done. Believe it when I say… the Alex Trout Series is one you want to check out.

John Mefford has done it again! His thrillers will grab you by the throat and not let you go until the very last page. AT Large is his second Alex Troutt book, and she is my new favorite FBI agent. Alex is still trying to put her life back together after an accident that took her memory and a serial killer who took her husband. She's thrust into another case that's far too similar to the case she just closed. Can she put her life back together for her family's sake and find a serial killer before more lives are destroyed? This book has some graphic injury descriptions, and it makes you question how Alex has such bad luck, but is an amazing story. It's gripping and gritty and unearths the nastiest form of humans, but I loved it! It's the second in the series, but it is a stand alone story (although it's definitely a better read after reading AT Bay). I received this book to review through Beck Valley Books Book Tours, all the opinions above are 100% my own.

I love John Mefford. He writes thrillers so well! I felt like AT Large started where AT Bay left off, but not so much that you had to have read the first one to follow the second (it just makes life a little easier. Besides, you don’t want to miss anything written by John!) It has been awhile between the first book and now so I didn’t remember all the details, but I was quickly reminded. I still have yet to figure out any of John’s books before he tells me and I love that! I love the challenge of trying to figure out and then not getting it and then of course, there is always some whacky twist and this one left me speechless! Although – a little note for the author – the actual ending actually ticked me off because I’m not 100% sure who was there… I have an idea, but knowing how the books are, I am probably wrong… which worries me! I cannot wait for the next installment and more Alex. I have always loved John’s characters, but I really love Alex. I think I can relate to her a bit more and would love to work with her!

Alex Troutt is at the gun range to qualify on firearms and she is experiencing a flashback to her husband's grisly death. She never saw the body but she saw the others killed in the same way. The image does not want to leave her. She takes a quieting breath and fires making the kill shot. On her way out she has a confrontation with her old SSA, Randy. Nick reminds her that he is not worth it. Once she gets outside, she pauses for a to gather herself and Jerry, her present boss, announces they are all going to happy hour. Alex tries to beg off but Jerry will not take no for an answer. They end up at the same place Alex last saw her husband alive. John W Mefford writes an exciting mystery that pulls you in from the very beginning and keeps you on the edge of your seat! Alex Troutt is a strong female lead that also shows some weakness. She is someone to cheer. This mystery has everything that I want and expect from a good mystery.

I read the first Alex Trout book and was left waiting for the next one to come out. I have to say that this one did not disappoint. Did it draw on the previous book? Without a doubt. Do you need to read AT Bay to be able to read AT Large? No, this is a great standalone. The Boston area makes a perfect setting for a thriller book. Mefford blends in the area with police work and some travel to other areas this time. Alex heads to New York City and Washington, DC. We also get to meet her father. I love a book that leaves me trying to figure out what is going on. I am always on edge, trying to be one step ahead of the author and characters and never get there with this book. The twists and turns were not ones that I could ever have anticipated. I sometimes wonder how anyone's mind works in the way a good author's does. I would like to spend time inside Mefford's brain to figure out how he gets these ideas. If you want suspenseful red, I totally recommend picking up AT Large.
