At Odds with Destiny showcases bestselling and critically acclaimed writers from a host of genres, each with a unique voice.  These storytellers tell unique tales, from a story of the Biblical King David, to modern romance and suspense, and back again  to a fantasy based in Akkadian mythology and the Sacred Bands of ancient Greece. Each rider brings you something different, but all  are passionate, skilled, and memorable. Open this box set as you'd approach a box of assorted chocolates, each delicious, all different. I particularly liked the ancient historical fantasy tales, but the heroes and heroines of each story are fascinating, one by one, and when read in order give you a special treat.  I have never been more pleased with a boxed set of e-books, so I award the set five stars, and five stars to each individual writer.

Uvi Poznansky's "Rise to Power" waxes Shakespearean: "What a rogue and peasant slave..." is Saul and yet bursts out with an intriguing "I Claudius" tone at times as well.. The best of both worlds. Kingly pomp, drenched in battle blood, and stark raving, in-bred madness all painted together in a picture of David as a modern man. Why did choose At Odds with Destiny? Well, I love to get my history indirectly in fictional form and the 12 tribes of Israel have intrigued me since spending almost a year in Israel in my late 20's. I know. I know, that was 35 years ago. Life, work, raising two wonderful children didn't leave time to peruse history for interesting topics. Now I am retired and can take my curiosity wherever it wanders. Speaking of meandering inquisitiveness, this 10 book collection starting with Rise to Power whet my appetite with its mix of genres written by best selling Indie writers like Christoph Fischer and Amalie Jahn, both of which I know and love to read. Any compendium featuring such sensitive, intelligent writers convinces me that I will love to explore the other authors that I know less well. Uvi Poznansky has taken the hard part out of plunging into new reading material. How's she done that? By selecting the best using her experience. Since I know I trust her judgment, I know I'll enjoy the other books in the collection. Now back to "Rise to Power". The story opens up with a Hamlet-like Saul suffering and lamenting, among other things, that he doomed his rise to power by showing mercy to a captured king. Almost like another of Shakespeare's characters, Lady Macbeth, he can't wash out the stain of this ill-fated decision. Enter the 'fool', a wise peasant in the person of David the musician trying his luck as court musician. Saul tries to dissuade the young man and sends him packing but he's persistent. So the story of the foundations of the House of David begins. No more spoilers here. You have to pick up the set and taste all of these great writers.

At Odds with Destiny What a wonderful compilation of books by a group of very talented authors. Three of these gifted authors are very familiar to me as I have read and reviewed several of their works. "At Odds with Destiny" starts off with Author Uvi Poznansky and her book Rise to Power, the story of Kind David. As previously stated..."Gifted Author Uvi Poznansky is up to her usual finesse of taking a well-known Bible story and giving it a modern day perspective". I am also very impressed with the writing of Authors, Christoph Fischer and Brandt Legg. Fischer's rich historical fiction is a reader's dream and Legg's Sci-fi series is equally enjoyable. Ten well-written books penned by ten great authors are combined in this set of books. A rare gem indeed! Inspirational Author & Book Reviewer ~ Dolores Ayotte

This is a collection of great writing. I have read the works of three of the authors included in this set, and loved them: Rise to Power, Native Lands, and Dream Student. Looking forward to read the other seven novels.

Beautifully written novels by ten outstanding authors will not disappoint. From the riveting Native Lands by P.C. Zick to the powerful Rise to Power by Uvi Poznansky, each novel chronicles the human condition and the horrendous odds set against profound characters fighting the most important battles of their lives. Outstanding value.

With the exception of David I loved each book in its entirety. An amazing group of authors, each book an excellent story. Most boxed sets are good but this set was phenomenal. I couldn't put them down. The most enjoyable set I've ever read

An eboxed set is a great way to find new favorite authors while simultaneously enjoying old favorites, and At Odds with Destiny is no exception. I had already read (and highly recommend) Uvi Poznansky’s Rise to Power, the first of her David Chronicles, so I was immediately attracted to this collection. Then I learned another favorite author, Aaron Paul Lazar, has a novel in there. Not only that, but it’s one I hadn’t read. Double Forte is a thoroughly enjoyable romantic/mystery/suspense novel with great characters, complex relationships, evocative scenery, wonderful cooking, and... well, you can tell I loved it as much as I’ve loved the author’s other books But there are many other books in the collection. Outview, by Brandt Legg begins a series set in a world of new-age reincarnation, where old-age science is decried as the root of all evil. It starts with a great character and voice, though it does get rather complex, messy, and anti-innoculation, food-safety, organized religion etc. Still, it’s a cool blend of mysticism, governmental betrayal, terrorist threat and plot for young adult readers. Then there’s The Luck of the Weissensteiners, by Christoph Fischer, a tale of complex and well-researched Jewish history, S.W. Vaughan’s Broken Angel with its fantastic title, almost perfect first sentence, and dark deeds on modern day streets. Plus James DiBennedetto’s Dream Student rounds out the collection, a truly intriguing tale of a young woman who shares her neighbor’s dreams. Are all these characters at odds with destiny? Indeed they are, where destiny is what the world expects for us, and truth is the road we choose to honestly travel. I’ve not read them all yet, but I’ve enjoyed what I’ve read and am eagerly looking forward to more time to read. Disclosure: I can’t remember now how I got my free copy, but I will continue reading with much enjoyment.
