Ryan’s Montana Men series launch, a follow-up to the Hunted series, precisely balances romance and suspense. Heiress Ella Wolf overhears the murder of her twin sister, Lela, by their uncle, Phillip. She escapes to the family ranch in Montana, hoping to find whatever Lela had that was worth killing for. After she’s stranded in a snowstorm on the country roads, rancher Gabe Bowden rescues her. Gabe had planned his future around buying Wolf Ranch from Phillip, but he’s shocked to learn about the murder, and he admires Ella’s grit and determination to take Phillip down in the midst of her grief. As the city girl and the country boy get closer, they explore both their growing feelings and Ella’s past, searching for a way to rescue both of their lives from Phillip’s machinations. However, the realistic dangers of a Montana winter and the intensity of Ella’s quest are let down by unnecessary, manufactured romantic tension and an absurdly cartoonish villain. Agent: Eric W. 4.5 out of 5 stars
This book hit more than one of my favorites to read buttons.  It is a sweet romance.  *sigh* It is a mystery.  It has suspense.  There is a hot cowboy.  *sigh* Oh yes!  Even a hot cop type.  Be still my heart.  Murder and mayhem.  Loved this story!

As I was reading this story and falling in love with this author, it was obvious there was an earlier book in this world.  Not because something was missing or that I felt lost or anything.  Quite the contrary.  This works very well as a stand-alone story.  No, I knew there had to be an earlier story because one of Gabe’s brothers was already happily married.  I read too many series not to know when I have missed someone’s story.  So, I did some research and found that brother’s story.  Imagine my surprise when I found his story and it lead to another whole series about his in-laws.  That leads me to wonder if the hot cop type mentioned above also has his own story.  Needless to say, I enjoyed this author so much, I will be finding out.  Sorry, I digress.

At Wolf Ranch is a wonderfully diverse story.  It starts out with a murder in New York City and ends up with a happy ever after on an amazing ranch in Montana.  In between there is murder, heart-ache, near death experiences, cattle rustling, art theft, with suspense throughout tempered with the romance. Jennifer Ryan does an excellent job weaving a gripping story that grabbed me and held me hostage until the end.  I know I couldn’t put it down.  (Who needs sleep anyway?)

All the characters were well developed but only when they needed to be.  In other words, the reader doesn’t have all the questions answered at once.  As with any good murder mystery, details are dribbled out when appropriate for the story.  In this case, although the murderer was known from the very beginning, it was all the surrounding events, the whys and wherefores, which made the story. It was a fascinating plot device and done rather well.

I did not feel like there was fluff added to further action or add word count.  The plot moved along at a nice pace.  Moments of heart-stopping action or suspense tempered with slower investigation and questioning, not to mention a snuggle or two.  I found it very well done.

The only hiccup I found in the story is a pet peeve of mine that is not a reflection on the author what so ever, but on an educational system that decided to change rules of grammar since I attended school.  A phenomenon that I have noticed in the past few years that seems to be accepted but can still through me out of a story.  That is the adding of “ed” to every verb to change the tense from present to past, in this case – winded vs wound.  *shutters*  As I said, a pet peeve of mine that seems to have become accepted by publishers as okay, but drives me a bit crazy.  Could be just old age catching up with me, but it did throw me out to the story more than once, hence losing it a half point from a perfect five star rating.  My hang up so please do not let that influence you.

Otherwise this was well done mystery/suspense story that a fan of TV shows like Vegas or Walker, Texas Ranger might enjoy – where the cowboy meets the city.

    NUMBER OF HEARTS: 4
    REVIEW:
This was my first book by Jennifer Ryan. At Wolf Ranch is the first book in her new Montana Men series. This was a good story. The beginning of this book is heartbreaking. But as the story goes on I learned that what you see is not always what you get. Ella is not the party girl that the world thinks she is. She is one tough cookie who is willing to do anything to find the truth. A truth that might just get her killed.
Gabe is dream in the way that all hunky yummy cowboys are. He is so amazing with Ella and the events that happen in this book.
Of course I don’t want to give anything away. But if you are looking for a new read and love cowboys, love suspense and love romance I would highly suggest you pick up a copy of At Wolf Ranch. I am looking forward to the next book in this series.

Call me biased, but in my opinion Jennifer Ryan writes one of the most romantic suspense stories that I’ve ever read. “The Hunted Series” is always going to be my chicken soup for the soul, having lost count of the number of times I’ve read that series.

For the uninitiated, The Montana Men Series takes us to the Bowden brothers, Gabe, Blake and Dane, the brothers of Caleb (married to Summer Turner) from The Hunted Series, and yes Caleb and Summer have their own story (All I Want For Christmas Is A Cowboy). I love when the stories have cross over characters from various books. And the Montana Men Series is set before the Hunted Series.

Running away from New York after witnessing the murder of her twin sister, millionaire Ella Wolf ends up on the snowy roads of Montana, bruised and injured, trying to get to her family ranch, leaving behind an evil uncle trying to kill her. Ella ends up in Gabe’s arms as he rescues her from dying and takes her into his protective folds. Her only goal is to bring justice to her sister and put her uncle behind bars forever.

Gabe Bowden is starting fresh after his injuries at rodeo circuit, and ends up buying Wolf Ranch to run his cattle breeding business. Meeting Ella and realizing that his business plans are going down the drain, doesn’t deter the sparks of attraction that flare between Ella and Gabe. As Gabe learns the truth about Ella, he stands by her to help and support despite him losing his money to her evil Uncle.

Jennifer Ryan’s heroines are just pure sassy, kick-ass and courageous to the core. And her heroes are not any less alphas, protective and supportive of their women. Her romances have just the right blend of love and danger. Every single story of hers leaves me with renewed hope and warmth, that every evil person is balanced by at least four good people. There are people like Gabe and Ella, who have empathy and compassion for others, helpful and hearts as big as the Montana skies with immense love and trust.

“At Wolf Ranch” (Montana Men, Book 1) is another brilliant story steeped with love and passion, laced with secrets and danger, touched with warmth and trust, a perfect fusion of suspense and charm captivating the hearts of the readers.

Received an ARC from the author for an honest review.

I love Jennifer Ryan and am so excited about this Montana Men series! When Ella Wolf witnesses her twin sister's murder, she runs to the family ranch in Montana to find the secret that will save her (because she knows she's next). Instead she finds a sexy as heck rancher with his own agenda. Jennifer Ryan writes such strong heroines and alpha heroes and doesn't disappoint here. She kept me on the edge of my seat until the satisfying final pages. Can't wait for WHEN IT'S RIGHT next month!

WOW! This story was amazing! I absolutely loved it! There’s action, suspense, danger, embezzlement, murder, cover-ups, traitors and the author managed to sneak in a beautifully fragile love story into the mix as well!

I loved Gabe and Ella. Gabe is a proud man wanting to make his own way. After being left at the altar by a superficial jerk who wanted more than Gabe could provide, he decides to hit the rodeo circuit to earn enough money to purchase a larger spread, some cattle and secure plans for his future. A future he hopes to share with a yet unknown Mrs. Right. Little does he know that she will show up one day in the most unusual of places and completely capture his heart.

Ella is destroyed by the grief of her twin sister’s murder. She’s in Montana looking for the evidence her sister uncovered and was going to use in order to press charges against the man responsible for embezzling money from their company. The man responsible is also her sister’s killer and has the police and higher-ups in his pocket. When Ella is rescued half-frozen and unconscious on the side of a deserted road, she never would have thought that the kindness of this stranger would give her the strength, support and love to fight against the one man responsible for this whole mess: her uncle.

This was a non-stop ride full of action! I was completely blown away by the suspense hook of the story. I couldn’t put the book down. Ella was such a diverse character. Her grief is palpable and utterly heartbreaking. I found myself grieving right along with her, but the steel in her resolve to get justice for her sister was absolute and I admired her strength. Gabe was such a dream. He was hurt in the past but regardless of that pain, he wanted to make a better life for himself and settle down with a wife and kids. Gabe realized early on that he had something special with Ella but he never pressured her or took advantage of her grief-stricken state.

I think the couple paired each other beautifully and I loved Gabe’s vulnerability as he admitted to himself and to Ella his fears about the relationship not working. I loved the secondary characters but I wished we could have seen more of Gabe’s brothers. I’m looking forward to reading their books as well. I was also very impressed with the villain, Ella’s uncle. He was pretty scary.

The story line was exciting and the characters were highly entertaining. AT WOLF RANCH is an excellent start to a promising series!

Do you know how, when watching a movie where a character is walk

Do you know how, when watching a movie where a character is walking into danger you start yelling at the screen? That was me while reading the first chapter with my heart racing fast! Right from the first chapter I got pulled in and was focused on finding out how the story ended.

After witnessing her twin sister’s murder, Ella Wolf retraces her steps to their sprawling Montana ranch to figure out what she had uncovered that led to her murder. Woefully unprepared for the harsh weather in Montana, she finds herself in danger and abandoned by the side of the road. Gabe Bowden has always wanted to settle down on his own ranch and start a family. He is finally back in Montana after years on the rodeo circuit to settle into his newly acquired property, Wolf Ranch and rescues a half-frozen female stranded by the side of the road. He initially mistakes Ella for her sister, Lela whom he had recently met, but when she confides in him, he takes it upon himself to help her in her quest, in spite of the fact that his dream has been destroyed before it could even take root. From the beginning, Gabe and Ella find themselves attracted to each other, but both initially ignore their attraction and instead focus on solving the mystery.

Ella was portrayed as the party girl, flighty, indecisive and always down for a good time but that was very far from the truth. Ella is actually very smart and hardworking and tough. Gabe is sooo dreamy and almost unreal! I don’t know that I would have reacted the way he did if my dreams were on the verge of being destroyed, but he protects Ella and helps her find what she needs. But how can a romance between them work out? Gabe is a cowboy through and through and Ella is a city girl.

At Wolf Ranch is so much more than just a romance about two people from very different backgrounds. The gripping suspense was well written, drawing me in from the first page and keeping me hooked. Even though we know who the villain is, getting to the why was a nail-biting experience. I believe that a sign of great writing is being completely connected with the characters and Ms. Ryan knocked this out of the park! I experienced Ella’s emotional highs and lows alongside her and even enjoyed her theatrical reveal of the villain. I also love that Ms. Ryan did not gloss over the difficulties of a relationship between them because of their different backgrounds, but took the time to share with us the sacrifices they made to make their relationship work. At Wolf Ranch is a keeper and I highly recommend it!

At Wolf Ranch will hook you from the first chapter!  Ella is so much more than her public image.  She is smart, strong and will not stop until she has the proof to nail those that betrayed her. She is one of my favorite heroines! Gabe is head over heels the minute he rescues Ella from the side of the road. The way he takes care of her is so romantic - and sexy! Even though you know who the bad guy is from the start, all the evidence came in bit by bit until you get the whole story. Highly recommended!

    4 suspensful, captivating, intriguing stars!

At Wolf Ranch, by Jennifer Ryan, is the first installment of her new Montana Men series. This was my first time reading a book by this author. I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised that after only one chapter I was biting my nails. It was like ‘’Whoaaaa, back-up!!!’’ What in the world just happened?!?!?! After that, I knew that I was in for an intense and mysterious reading journey.

Secrets, lies, betrayals are surrounding the murder of her twin sister. Ella Wolf is determined to put the person that murdered her sister behind bars. Ella wants answers and the only place she can find them is by going back to Wolf Ranch. Her sister Lela visited the Ranch before she was brutally murdered.

When she arrives in Montana, trouble comes knocking on the door sooner than she thought. When she is left on the side of a cold and icy road, she starts to lose hope that she will live to turn twenty-five. Gabe is stunned to find a woman on the side of the road. Who would leave a woman to freeze to death? When he saves and opens the doors to his home, the last thing he expected was to be involved in a race against time. He will do whatever it takes to keep Ella safe.

As days go by, Ella and Gabe form a strong bond. They work together to seek justice and resolve the intricate puzzle that Lela left behind. What secrets will Ella find out, and how will she overcome this heartbreaking tragedy? Will she be able to start healing and let Gabe have a place in her life?

Like I mentioned before, this book hooked me from the very beginning. I could not wait to find out more about all the secrets that were hiding in Montana. From the beginning we know who killed Lela. What I was anxious to find out is why did that person do it? I kind of had an idea of the reasons behind that persons behavior, but I wanted to find out more. I was impressed with Ella. She was a strong character and I connect with her instantly. She was determined to find the answers that would permit her to avenge her sister’s murder. What I liked about this story is that the romance was present, but it was not the main focus of the story. Ella was going through a difficult time and Gabe new exactly what to do and say to bring her comfort. They had a pretty good chemistry together.

In this first installment, the supporting characters of this story were well introduced. The author did a fantastic job with the Bowden men. When I start a series, I want to get to know a bit about which character I’m going to be reading about next. Blake will be next and When It’s Right is just around the corner! I’m really excited to read it!

I give, At Wolf Ranch, by Jennifer Ryan, 4 suspensful, captivating, intriguing stars!

So Much More Than Your Typical Cowboy Romance When I started At

So Much More Than Your Typical Cowboy Romance
When I started At Wolf Ranch I was expecting a straight forward cowboy romance but it's really so much more. The gripping story is filled with suspense, as Ella tries to find proof of her uncle's nefarious deeds and gain justice for her family. I thought I knew where the story was going and where the evidence would be found based on a hint from her dying sister, but Jennifer Ryan continuously threw in twists and turns that kept me on my toes.

In terms of Ella and Gabe, I loved how they grew closer over time, building their relationship from a place of friendship, support and attraction, into an enduring love that went beyond the high-tension situation they were in. Gabe protected Ella both physically and emotionally, making sure that she had the time to grieve without feeling rushed into a sexual relationship. Even though they're from very different walks of life they find common ground in their dedication to their families and their love of animals. It was such a sweet romance, that despite the moments of grief and loss, truly made me laugh and smile.

I really admired both the hero and heroine and enjoyed their little personality quirks. Sometimes when characters are so kind and good, they can feel like unnatural specimens of perfection which we, as mere mortals, just can't relate to. Ryan created two main characters with so much heart and genuine emotion that you can't help but fall in love with them and their flaws. The romantic elements of the story were on the sweeter side of sexy but Ella and Gabe still managed to pack plenty of heat. I guess there's just something about those Montana men.

I supremely enjoyed At Wolf Ranch and I'm so excited to read the next installment in the Montana Men series, When It's Right, which comes out later this month. It's already on my TBR pile and if you're a fan of outdoorsy book boyfriends with hearts of gold and dirty minds then this series is one for you!

I have seen this book around, and seen wonderful reviews of it.

I have seen this book around, and seen wonderful reviews of it. So when I got a chance to read it, of course I jumped at the chance. And it was sooo good. I am so glad that I got a chance to read it.  I mean, the book starts with these stereotypical characters, but then the author gives each one this subtle twist, and suddenly you realize that they aren't who you thought they were. It was masterfully done. I kept being pleasantly surprised by reactions to situations and obstacles in the story.

Ella Wolf is running for her life. Her uncle thinks she is just some party girl, stumbling through her glamorous life, doing the minimum to get by. When she has a front row seat to his cold blooded murder of her twin sister, she has to prove him wrong... or she is next.

Gabe Bowen sunk everything he had into his deal to buy Wolf Ranch. Yet when Ella shows up and opens his eyes to the truth about the deal he had made with her uncle, he doesn't hesitate to offer her help. There was a lot of chemistry between these two, but what I really liked was their openness and honesty with each other.

The perfect mix of action, suspense, and romance, all set in Montana cowboy country. I really enjoyed this and am wondering why I haven't discovered Jennifer Ryan before now. I am giving this 5 stars.

When you've lost everything, when your world falls apart in fron

When you've lost everything, when your world falls apart in front of you, what do you do?

It's a hard question to answer, I think, at any age. Whether you're left at the altar like Gabe was or left alive because every member of your immediate family was dead like Ella was, finding your footing and learning to walk again is hard. Sometimes, though, it can be the turning point in your life.

Gabe's was when his fiancee walked out on him. Ella's was when she witnessed her twin sister's murder. Maybe it was luck that had them meeting the way they did. Maybe it was Fate. Whatever it was, their roads were destined to cross and their lives were meant to entwine.

In every way possible, they complimented each other. Their worlds were different, but not really. Ella knew, understood, and appreciated the country lifestyle Gabe wanted because it was hers as well. Glitz and glamor, celebrities and expensive restaurants. Ella knew that life but she also knew one of hard work, of quiet and comfort in the family home, of good times and laughter and love with a family. The memories she had of her family ranch in Montana came up time and again as she searched for answers to why her sister died. If it wasn't obvious to Gabe at the beginning, it sure as hell became obvious as they spent time together that money and fancy things were not the center of this woman's world.

Love and family were. For a man like Gabe whose family was everything, this was a blessing in disguise and one more reason to fall in love with Ella.

The one thing I loved the most about Gabe was his strength. His physical strength was impressive. Come on. Who doesn't think "impressive" when it comes to cowboys? *chuckles* But it wasn't because he fought Ella's battles or designated himself her knight in shining armor. It's because it didn't overshadow Ella's strength. When I said they complimented each other in every way possible, I meant it. Ella was one hell of a strong woman. Standing beside Gabe made her even stronger. She had the support of a well-grounded man in her corner, one willing to punch someone's lights out or let her do it.

Life doesn't always happen the way you want it to. Plans fall apart. Unexpected happens. Tragedy occurs. But what you do when everything falls around you shows more about your character than words ever could. And sometimes the most amazing things happen because your world is turned upside down. You meet the most incredible person who sees your pain, understands your heart, and is willing to risk life and limb to make your happiness a reality. All you have to do is take that chance.

Jennifer Ryan is new to me, this is the first book of hers I have read. It won’t be the last.
I like how the plot starts with a mystery that takes you through the whole book. The story is solid without rushing the plot just to get to steamy hot sex scenes.
The way the mystery goes through you think you know where its headed…then you find out you didn’t. I adored it.
I was gifted this book in exchange for an honest review.

4.5 star The story has laughs, grief, murder, secrets, betrayal

    4.5 star

The story has laughs, grief, murder, secrets, betrayal, suspense, and heartbreak. I was pulled right into this story.

This is Ella and Gabe’s story. After seeing her sister murdered she runs. She knows who did it but she needs to track down why they did it. Gabe rescues her from the side of the road and takes her home to heal. When she explains why she is in town he helps her search down the facts they need to take down a killer. The more time spent together the closer they get. Gabe is afraid that Ella has just to much city in her to ever want to settle down with him on the ranch. Can Ella convince Gabe all she ever wanted was him and his love?

I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read.

    I recommend this book.
