Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Kameno Bell, MD (Indiana University School of Medicine)
Description: This DVD provides an excellent interactive comprehensive review of athletic injuries to the elbow. Using the program requires minimum computer knowledge, mostly point and click with color codes and bookmarks to help navigate.
Purpose: This is a great self tutorial or it can be used as a group tutorial on certain elbow conditions. This product can be used to provide up-to-date information and references for evaluation and treatment.
Audience: This is a good learning tool for veteran nonacademic surgeons and residents just learning. It also can be useful for teach primary care physicians. The commentary is by the leading experts in the field of elbow surgery.
Features: The installation is simple. The format originally looks daunting but the learning curve is short. Closing programs in the middle seems puzzling at times. The content seems pretty comprehensive and the DVD also provides a direct tutorial on the material without quizzing, as in the case study sections. Both of these programs make for a complete program. Video clips of examples help drive home points. Besides covering the most common injuries, it also includes good cases of not so common injuries that may mimic common ones and/or can be complications of surgery.
Assessment: This program contains excellent material and presents it in an interactive way that provides an opportunity for good retention. It allows for review and tutorial if not understood or retained initially. It can be used by surgeons and nonsurgeons.
