Ignatius Loyola Donnelly (November 3, 1831 – January 1, 1901) was a U.S. Congressman, populist writer and amateur scientist, known primarily now for his theories concerning Atlantis, Catastrophism (especially the idea of an ancient impact event affecting ancient civilizations), and Shakespearean authorship, all of which modern historians consider to be pseudoscience and pseudohistory.

    Racist Pseudohistory

    I slogged through this book during a study of things occult. Donnelly is typical of the self educated polymaths of the 19th century. You are tempted, based on his obvious great intelligence and learning, to take this book at face value. And thats a big mistake. This book contains much pseudohistory, pseudoreligion, and pseudoarcheology. It almost wouldn't even be worth reading except for the place it holds in Atlantean lore.
