Description: This atlas of dermatopathology includes photomicrographs with arrows and labels, relevant accompanying text, helpful tables, and very useful differential diagnosis sections.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide a small book that is affordable, but complete enough to be useful to both trainees and experienced practitioners, a worthy objective that the book meets.
Audience: This would be useful to medical students, residents in pathology and dermatology, and practitioners in these fields. It could also be used by those in other specialties such as internal medicine.
Features: The atlas covers major entities in dermatopathology. The outstanding photomicrographs are of high quality and pertinent, with useful arrows and labels. Tables are helpful in making diagnoses. Especially valuable are the sections on differential diagnosis. As with any synopsis, however, it is impossible to cover every subject.
Assessment: This is a very high quality book that provides a great deal of information despite its size. It covers similar material to Practical Dermatopathology, 2nd edition, Rapini (Elsevier, 2012). Given that this edition has 1,000 new microscopic images as well as additional discussion and more diseases, it is certainly justified.
