Overview

In this illuminating history, Dan Cohn-Sherbok traces the development of Jewish history from ancient times to the present day. Containing over 100 maps and 30 photographs, this is a comprehensive atlas of Jewish history designed for students and the general reader. It is ideally suited for those courses in Jewish or Biblical Studies, serving as a handy reference guide as well as a textbook.

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
This atlas contains some 100 maps as well as text that illustrates the history of the Jews from antiquity to the intifada . Probably one of its more unusual aspects is the inclusion in some instances of city plans. This is a useful reference work, particularly for those not familiar with Jewish history, but by now there are quite a few atlases on the subject. Most of the better specialized ones have been published in Hebrew and English by Carta Publishing House in Israel. However, a recent, more general work is the excellent Historical Atlas of the Jewish People ( LJ 12/92)--a distinguished predecessor and stiff competition to Cohn-Sherbok's work. The main drawback of this atlas is its spotty bibliography, which seems to have been chosen almost randomly. It would have been better not to include it.-- Jehuda Reinharz, Tauber Inst., Brandeis Univ., Waltham, Mass.
