This color atlas discusses common and important pediatric problems that lend themselves to rapid visual diagnosis and simple laboratory evaluation, including tests which can be performed in the office or via X-rays. Format allows physicians to diagnose disorders without expensive and time-consuming diagnostic methods.

4th Edition:
Thoroughly revised and updated, the 4th Edition of this practical reference presents superbly illustrated guidance on the visual diagnosis of hundreds of common and important pediatric disorders. Accompanying text emphasizes pertinent historical factors, examination techniques, visual findings, and diagnostic methods rather than therapy. Expanded coverage from new contributors enhances readers' diagnostic skills, enabling them to take advantage of the best treatment options available. "This book is more than just an atlas. It contains thorough text in most major subspecialties of pediatric pratice."*JAMA, rev. of last ed.

The book contains predominantly color illustrations, with some black-and-white illustrations.

Editorial Reviews

Journal of the American Medical Association
This text is essential for the pediatric practitioner, whether novice or experienced, generalist or subspecialist. Since it is impossible in a lifetime to have seen every condition or disease, the atlas is the next best thing and allows the reader to feel as though he or she has actually participated in the examination of the child under discussion....It is an extraordinary resource.
Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Charles Kantrow, MD (Ochsner Clinic Foundation)
Description: This is an excellent reference for physical diagnosticians in pediatrics. It is subdivided by subspecialty with an emphasis on diagnoses that have significant findings on physical exam. The book is not intended to be inclusive of all pediatric medicine. It has very clear descriptions and representative photographs and/or drawings to demonstrate visual findings that are important in making a diagnosis. The previous edition was published in 1997.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide a resource for physical findings seen on exam using visual images and description. The author feels that to see a physical finding enhances learning of the disease described. This book clearly fulfills this mission for the reader. It should be available and can be used in all training programs involving students, residents, and even senior staff. It is an outstanding tool for learning to recognize relevant physical findings seen in the pediatric population.
Audience: This book is clearly designed to be a teaching tool for young housestaff and students. The clarity of the images and the didactic thought processes in reaching a diagnosis make it an outstanding resource for practitioners at any level of training. This is the book's intent and it is a success. The author is a credible authority in pediatrics.
Features: The book provides a broad range of visual diagnostic findings seen in a pediatric population. It is divided by subspecialties and provides excellent points of interest to each field using photographic and artist renderings of physical findings appropriate to each diagnosis. The quality of the artwork and photos is outstanding.
Assessment: This atlas should be a part of every pediatrician's library as a source for information and education. I know of no other book which covers as broad a variety of topics with the number and quality of illustrations.
From the Publisher
"The authors of this much acclaimed text have prepared a fourth edition, 5 years after the previous edition. Each chapter has been revised or rewritten, & approximately 40% of the content is new. The superb text has become even better in its new edition. The quality of illustrations & attention to clarity of information in diagrams & figures are outstanding. The presentation of information is clear & lucid as to mask the massive amount of material available. The expanded & concise coverage of both common and uncommon pediatric conditions makes this book one of a few texts essential for pediatric practice. It would serve, not only for the novice student but for the established clinician who may need to recall concepts & visual findings encountered."
