Editorial Reviews

Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Celso Agner, MD, MS, MSc (Michigan Neurology Partners)
Description: This book is a good addition to the field of neurosurgery. Its highly technical approach is suitable for the ever-changing field of peripheral nerve surgery. The format and size are appropriate even for the busy surgeon.
Purpose: Knowledge of peripheral nerve anatomy is crucial for the development of surgical approaches for conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, other entrapment neuropathies, traumatic damage to peripheral nerves, or any other condition for which nerve repair is necessary. The main purpose of this book is to present diverse surgical approaches for common peripheral nerve problems. High-quality drawings are presented in good paper throughout the book.
Audience: The book is targeted primarily to neurosurgeons operating on the peripheral nervous system. In my view, it can also be useful for orthopedic surgeons or any other professional dealing directly or indirectly with peripheral nerve problems, such as occupational and physical therapists and rehabilitation medicine practitioners.
Features: Detailed description of the procedures is provided throughout. Anatomical, clinical, and radiological correlation is provided when necessary and always pertinent to the data presented in each one of the chapters. Besides providing specific detail in each of the sections, the authors also provide information on electrodiagnostic methods used in daily neurosurgical practice. The last part of the book presents high resolution color photographs of anatomical specimens related to each one of the peripheral nerves. The book doesn't lack in any aspect and meets its purpose very well. The pictures are pertinent and of good quality. The paper is of good quality and the price, reasonable. The references are updated to meet specific questions that readers may have.
Assessment: This book is highly recommended for orthopedic and neurosurgical libraries. Residents will find it a useful source of information for many conditions they face on their careers. Neurosurgeons and orthopedic surgeons will be able to update their knowledge on the subject.
