Overview

"Radiologic-cytopathologic correlation is critical for an accurate interpretation of a pathologic process. Atlas of Radiologic-Cytopathologic Correlations is a generously illustrated and user-friendly atlas containing over 700 carefully selected, high resolution images from radiology and cytopathology and serves as a practical guide in the diagnostically challenging areas of deep-seated mass lesions, with additional coverage of selected areas of soft tissues, bone and some superficial sites such as thyroid.

In seven chapters, radiologic and pathologic images are arranged for easy correlation and comparison of diagnostic features thoroughly illustrating all-important aspects of the radiology, cytopathology and histopathology of the key disease processes in each organ system.

Features Include:

  • 749 high resolution radiologic, cytopathologic and histopathologic images arranged for easy correlation and comparison
  • Comprehensive coverage of organ systems and disease processes
  • Coverage includes non-neoplastic and benign lesions as well as malignancy
  • Authors are expert faculty from both diagnostic specialties

Editorial Reviews

“A fine reference and excellent teaching tool.”—Bulletin of the American Society of Cytopathology, September 2012

Description: This atlas combines the fields of radiology and cytopathology and promotes the concept of radiologic-cytopathologic correlation as part of the diagnostic process for both fields.
Purpose: The aim is to provide a book that "will serve as a reference to a wide range of providers who have an interest in understanding the radiologic correlates to cytopathologic diagnosis and that it will promote understanding of how critical radiologic-cytopathologic correlation is for an accurate interpretation of a pathologic process."
Audience: Although cytopathologists and radiologists are the intended audience, any healthcare providers may use this book as a reference to gain an understanding of radiologic-cytopathologic correlations. It is also a great teaching book for residents and fellows in pathology and radiology. One of the authors, Dr. Syed Ali, is a world-renowned expert in the field of cytopathology.
Features: The atlas uses an organ-based approach for its six chapters on the head and neck, thoracic, abdomen, pelvis, lymph nodes, and bone and soft tissues. The chapter format is uniform and consistent throughout the book. Each uses a case presentation that begins with a high-resolution radiology image, followed by the concurrent fine-needle-aspiration cytology images and the follow-up surgical pathology findings, if available. The cases cover a broad range of lesions in each organ system. Each image is accompanied by detailed legends pointing out all the important features. The legends are so well written that they can be used by beginners to learn cytopathology and radiology. All images are of the highest quality. As a cytopathologist, I especially like the arrows in the radiology images.
Assessment: A multidisciplinary approach is important not only in treatment but also in the diagnostic world of medicine. Clinical and radiological correlation is an integral part of making cytopathology diagnosis. This atlas serves as one of the first books in the field of radiology-pathology correlations and exemplifies how the collaboration is critical in making accurate diagnoses in both fields.
