Doody's Review ServiceReviewer: Troy Allyn Belle, BA, BS, MD (University of Colorado Health Sciences Center)
Description: The atlas has hundreds of high quality images with the appropriate amount of text and annotation to make sense of them.
Purpose: The atlas serves the dual purposes of a refernce in the clinical setting and a concise resource of pattern recognition for those in training. These are worthy objectives for imagers who often find themselves searching for examples of normal and abnormal images on the internet due to a lack of relevant images in texts that are currently availible. This atlas more than meets the author's dual objectives
Audience: The atlas is intended for all those involved in the imaging of obstetric and gynecologic patients including technologists. Both Dr. Doubilet and Dr. Benson are noted authorities on the subject.
Features: The atlas covers classic normal and abnormal imaging findings in obstetrics and gynecology. The strongest feature of the text are the images which are high quality and appropriate for the subject matter. The incorporation of real time sonographic images on the accompanying CD ROM is innovative and highly effective. Although some of the text entries are brief, they are appropriate for the atlas format of the text.
Assessment: This atlas should serve as an asset to any clinical or teaching service. It surpasses many other imaging texts on the same subject matter by the shear number of high quality images, the substance of each annotation, and the innovative addition of a CD ROM containing real-time imaging.
