Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Jackie Fulton
Book eight of the "Scream Street" series begins with the young supernatural trio of werewolf Luke, vampire Resus, and mummy Cleo on a secret mission to stop resident landlord Sir Otto Sneer from turning Scream Street and its residents into a freak show. Since Luke and his pals opened a portal to escape Scream Street, slimy Sneer has been charging "normals" from the other side to tour the ghoulish neighborhood and things are beginning to get hairy. The only way to get things back to paranormal is for the three young heroes to return all eight of the relics they originally acquired to open the gate. Things start off all right but it is not long before their mission is interrupted by hungry trolls. Next thing they know, the kids have to think fast in order to keep themselves out of hot water (literally!). Robust vocabulary is sprinkled throughout the amusing text making this a delicious challenge for the ambitious tween-aged reader yet is not too difficult for the average audience. There is a perfect mix of hilarity and horror to keep young readers interested without being overly frightening for younger readers. Even kids who are not ready to read this book alone will enjoy it as a read-aloud. Detailed black ink illustrations and embellishments punctuate the humor nicely and grace nearly every page.
