This is the perfect family book. It covers everything from when and when not to handle abandoned fledglings to informative entries on a range of common backyard birds. It also includes projects for the entire household: bird feeders for the handyman to build; tips for the gardener on growing plants that appeal to avian visitors; and ideas for the craftsperson, such as nutritious decorations to make for birds. Arrange alphabetically and colorfully illustrated. All this information is made accessible to adults and children alike by the clear presentation and the author's friendly informal style.

    Informative, Fun Book!

This book is wonderful for anyone interested in birds. There is a wealth of information, but it is presented in easily digested segments with MANY practical ideas. I especially love the part on using different foods to attract a variety of birds. The section on gardening for birds which lists the different flowers, trees, etc., to plant to attract birds is great. I planted a butterfly and bird garden using some of the information. The illustrations are fun, and all the ideas I have tried thus far have worked (check out the tip on how to keep squirrels out of your feeders). I encourage anyone to read it. You will refer to it often.
