Description: This overview of aspects important to the successful operation of audiology clinics and private practices covers technical, legal, and financial aspects as well as HIPAA compliance, infection control, marketing, quality control/improvement. The previous edition was published in 2000.
Purpose: Due to the growth in knowledge combined with the increased sophistication of practice procedures, the authors felt the need to update their trilogy of books, of which this is one. According to the authors, the purpose of this volume is to "provide useful definitions of practice management, principles of practice management for audiology, and application to a comprehensive set of practice environments."
Audience: The authors intend this as an essential reference for graduate students in AuD programs, currently practicing audiologists, educators, and any other healthcare practitioners participating in service delivery. The editors and chapter authors are all experts in the field and represent practicing clinicians in clinics as well as in private practices, professors in audiology educational programs, researchers, and administrators.
Features: The book begins with a chapter explaining just what practice management is. Otherwise, the book is divided into three sections. The section on principles includes chapters on professional ethics, quality control, human resources management, principles of marketing, and issues in private practice. The practice management section discusses HIPAA, outcome measurements and EVP, the importance of documentation, infection control, cerumen management, and supervision. The final section on business applications includes information on developing business plans, accounting, reimbursement, and computer principles.
