I used to be a huge fan of the series, and though the previous two books were disappointing, I had hopes for this one. I don't know if the author is just tired of Aunt Dimity, but this book was little more than a travelogue for New Zealand. The premise was far from realistic, the plot was thin and, frankly, boring, and the characters were one-dimentional ... there was no mystery, just a silly chase around a tiny country. Disappointment doesn't begin to describe my feelings about this one.

I got a tour of beautiful New Zealand as well as a wonderful, clue-filled mystery. Nancy Atherton is one of my "must read" authors.

Being a major fan of the wacky Aunt Dimity series and someone who fell in love with New Zealand when I visited there two years ago, I really enjoyed this book. Main character, Lori, is her usual entertaining and inconsistent self yet, although sleep deprived, she's not quite as emotional as usual--rather a good thing I thought! Nevertheless, her efforts to track down the only remaining relative of the lovely Pimm sisters in a race through various cities on both islands of New Zealand kept me rivited. As always, there's a happy ending. And, in the end there's a new addition to the quirky, good-hearted, gossipy English Village of Finch who loves to needle Mrs. Taxman to the delight of everyone in town. Very funny, good twists, quirky and a fast read that should entertain you right up to the last page. Here's to Lori, Aunt Dimity, her latest new friend, and what Lori learns about a young person and the terrific country of New Zealand.

If you love the Aunt Dimity series, you must read the continuing saga of Lorie and Aunt Dimity. Once again, Lorie is called into investigation on an emergency and time constraining mission. Due to her love and admiration for the Pym sisters, she is off on an adventure to New Zealand. Of course, everything works out so that Bill and the kids are taken care of and she does not have to worry about them while on this trip. She travels to not just one spot in New Zealand, but travels the whole of it in search of clues and ferreting out mysteries. Through jungle, mountains, hills, surf, by plane, boat, car and on foot, she travels and meets many of the people of New Zealand guided by, of course, a very handsome young man. If you ever wanted to have a guide while in New Zealand, this man is the one! He has friends in every town and also remote locations, has all modes of transportation available to him, and manages to expedite Lorie's mission throughout. Lorie could not have completed her mission without him.
A combination of history, long lost relatives, quirky and interesting people and exotic and interesting locations, makes the plot moves along quickly. If you are a fast reader and have a couple of hours, this can be read in one day.
Of course, Aunt Dimity lends a hand through her writings to Laurie, helping her fill in some background and historical data so that Laurie is able to piece together more of the puzzle she is trying to put together.
The author almost leaves you with the feeling that Lorie may go back to New Zealand one day with Bill and the boys. Also, Lorie encounters what the New Zealanders call "Ringers". The Ringers are groupies who followed the crew of the "Lord of the Rings" films while filming at various locations in New Zealand. As usual, the locals were glad they brought in revenue during the years of filming, but also found them somewhat annoying.
I am looking forward to many more Aunt Dimity books. They are a nice light enjoyable read and a good escape. No heavy drama and would be a nice beach book. I would also recommend this series for any young adults. This series features no foul language or offensive material of any kind.

I have read all of the Aunt Dimity books and have enjoyed them all , but this is nothing more than a travel book on New Zealand. The plot is obvious and Atherton has really gotten away from the clever mysteries she started off with. It's a nice read if you are interested in New Zealand or are sitting on a beach with nothing to do. I guess with this installment we will get two new ongoing characters, although I don't know how long Bree will last in Finch.
